DH and I are staying a Buena Vista Palace, in DTD for a conference. What's the best things to do in DTD, besides shopping?
Eating, watching entertainment (it's sporadic, but it's there), people-watching, playing with Legos in the
Lego Room

, sitting by the water and getting a tan, walking the entire length of DTD and back again (great exercise with a nice view!), DisneyQuest (on the West Side), listening to music at the Virgin Store (West Side), going to the movies.
What can I do on my own on Saturday?
See above. Personally? I'd find a restaurant to try, then drop by for some chocolate or a dessert at Ghiradelli, then take in a movie.
I'd like to go to HS on Sunday (of Columbus Day weekend), will this be really busy?
It'll be busier than normal, but if you go alone, then you can use the single-rider line for everything and your waits will be far less. If it's you and your DH, you still won't run into massive crowds -- they'll be a lot bigger at MK.
Where can we get a cheap healthy breakfast?
Pretty much anywhere on the "healthy" part, these days. "Cheap" is in the eye of the beholder. You'll pay more for everything near the parks, just because you're near the parks. If you want "as cheap as possible", then you might want to bring some cereal or breakfast items from home or stop at a Publix on your way to the hotel. Most cabbies or car services will stop for you. There are a lot of other resorts in the DTD area, all with coffee shops, restaurants and snack bars. Do a little internet research and you'll find lots of options.
DH isn't thrilled with going to HS (he's not a ride guy), what else could we do on Sunday instead?
There are really only two big rides at HS, so it's not like walking into a Six Flags or Cedar Point. Check out the Disney website and show him what else is there. HS also has a car stunt show, the Indiana Jones stunt show, the backstage tour, animation tour, and lots of other attractions and shows to see. But if he still doesn't want to go, what else you can do depends on transportation. If you have a car, you can choose anywhere from SeaWorld to Kennedy Space Center to the beach. If you don't have a car, you still have MK, Epcot and DAK to explore as well. Even though you're taking your kids in November, nothing wrong with doing a little "advance work" to help you plan. If the other parks are totally off-limits and you don't have a car, then spend the day at the pool and plan a dinner at DTD at someplace like House of Blues. If you've got some extra $$, you might want to consider La Nouba (Cirque du Soleil).
Where can I find out if there's a bus from our hotel to the parks or hotels?
It's probably on your hotel's website. But otherwise, call the front desk or ask when you arrive. If you're a DTD hotel, chances are there is a bus from your resort to all points Disney.
