Many closures and extra busy summer?

This may have been addressed before and if so, I apologize and you can point me to the correct thread.

My Dad said he read that due to the new Star Wars land coming, 17% of the rides at Disneyland would be closing while they were building the land and the park would be more crowded then normal.

We were interested in going to DL for the first time this upcoming summer. We go to DW about 5 times a year and this would be the first trip ever to DL.

Is this true that this many rides will be closed and it will be more crowded? Would you pass on a trip this summer and wait until next?

Where did your dad see the 17% figure? There's a decent number of things closing, but most of them really aren't high attraction headline attractions.

He said he read an article online. I just tried googling it and it shows about 10 closures (between rides, restaurants, shows).

Disneyland always seems busy these days! I sure wouldn't count on it being less slow when Star Wars Land opens. I would think this summer might be less busy than after SWL opens, but that's just my guess. Even when it's busy if you start early, plan a little, and go for enough days, you can have a terrific trip.

The big deciding factor to me would be if you want to go when the Rivers of America are walled off with some of the associated rides down. But there is always something not running at Disneyland, and there is still plenty to do between DL and DCA. Really only you can decide how important that is to you.

I just want to add the 60th stuff ends at the beginning of September, so I would factor that in , too, if you want to see that. It is really great!

For what is closing to make way for SW land along with the temp closures I don't think will make a huge difference. A lot of them were hardly big crowd areas. When you factor in that the Launchbay is open I think crowds are some what offset compared to when innoventions closed.

I also think Disneyland will benefit from Harry Potter land opening at Universal diverting crowds for a day or two to those theme parks.

I would say that this isn't the best year to travel to DL. Lots of stuff going down, the 60th is still attracting big crowds, and oh yeah, tickets are going through the roof. We'll be waiting at least a year before we return. WDW is definitely on our radar for late 2016.

We'll be heading down soon for the Star Wars half marathon but will have to think carefully about when to make a return trip after that. So many things will be closed while we are there in January, with many shutting down the day before we arrive.

with that said, we made a couple of trips during the period when DCA was under major re-construction and still had a good time so it doesn't mean we won't go at all, just that we'll give it some consideration before making plans.

If it is your first time an you don't HAVE to do it this summer, I would wait if you can until the closures re-open. I realise that is likely putting it off for some time - but would hate for you to have a poor comparison to WDW due to the closures. For me the main thing that would be disappointing would be missing Fantasmic and the look and feel around the River with it being drained and screened off.

We are WDW vets who go yearly (we usually go twice a year) and we are getting away from WDW in 2016 with all of their closures and heading to DLR for our second trip in June. Yes there will be closures when we go, but it is still nothing compared to what WDW is going through...between the major rehaul in Hollywood Studios where it seems to be most of the park is closed/closing, to the lack luster Future World in Epcot, plus all of the ongoing construction in Animal Kingdom with Avatarland set to open in 2017 and the new Rivers of Light nighttime show (it will be due to open sometime in 2016 though), we decided that we needed to take a break and head to DLR because even though it isn't WDW, it is still Disney. I do however, understand what others say about waiting until the Rivers of America is back open because that whole area is really pretty, however, if you are like us and want to get away from the WDW construction then by all means head to DLR....of course if you want to see the 60th Anniversary festivities, then by all means go (that is is another reason why we are heading back to DLR in June) .

We only get to make the trip about every other year and this is our year, I just plan on making the best of it with what is up and running and really you wouldnt be able to do everything in one trip anyway so it will be a good reason to go back when those things open back up
