We need a wheelchair for my DMiL. Looking at the Buena Vista Scooter site, our choices are the manual wheelchair or transport chair. She will not be using it herself. She will be pushed everywhere. Does anyone know the differences between the chairs other than that? Which is lighter, easier to collapse? Any other considerations?

TIA!

main difference is a transport chair has all small wheels. it is also MUCH more uncomfortable for all day use. even if she is not self propelling( neither am I ) a regular chair is far more desirable.

when it comes to all day comfort versus easier to collapse/lighter,. sorry but comfort always wins.

You would have a very hard time pushing a transport chair all day and the passenger would be uncomfortable too. Definitely go for the manual chair. They should still fold for a car trunk. Those big wheels are critical for getting around the parks.

I agree with both PPs. A transport chair is fine for short periods, and if you are only using it on flat surfaces. But you really need the large rear wheels of a wheelchair to handle uneven surfaces and curbs; both of which you'll encounter multiple times every day. Transport chairs also aren't intended to be sat in all day.

I agree. Transport chair is not comfortable for all day and the smaller wheels make it more difficult to push.
