Please let me know which you think would be funner? My sister and I are going in April

It totally just depends on personal preference - neither is really more fun. I think the best description I heard on here was that the mansions are like Gone With the Wind and the bayou is like Huck Finn. I personally have stayed at the mansions and loved them, but wouldn't really want the rustic look of the bayou. But keep in mind that you can't reserve a specific side of the resort, you can make a request, but they're not always honored.

It really is a matter of personal taste, just like choosing which resort, restaurants, parks, and attractions to visit. We prefer the mansion buildings, but others rave about AB. I'm sure you'll be happy with either.

My daughter and I have stayed in both. We actually prefer AB. We, unlike most people, always ask for a location furthest from the main bldg. Part of the charm of that resort is the stroll from your room to the food court. So much nice landscaping and lots of ducks, bunnies, birds to look at.

When we stayed in AB (2 times) we felt more removed from the noise than when we stayed in the mansions.

Just our opinion!:)

As a child, I stayed at dixie landings probably five or six times. I've always enjoyed AB because it is close by to the food court, pool, and arcade. I guess it depends on what is most important to you. PO is a very large resort, so no matter what you request, if you want to be close to the food court definitely tell them that because once we got a room that pretty far out there! In my opinion, both are great.

I think that's the best description of the resort I have ever heard. I personally love the mansions. What really made the difference for me was seeing the differece between the room interiors of the two sections. I'm just not in to the whole log cabin feel.

Just so you know in case you speak with Disney direct, "Dixie Landings" no longer exists. It is now called Port Orleans Riverside. We stay in the bayou rooms when it was still DL a few years back and moved out of DL and into the Contemporary after just one night. Those little lizzard/gecko things were everywhere and I am a big baby about creepy crawly things. The rooms at DL were nice and the resort was beautiful, but I couldn't sleep at all.

Is anyone else out there afraid of those menacing little lizzards?

The landscaping at this resort is amazing. We just got back last night and we thought it was incredibly beautiful, even in January. It'll be spectacular when the trees are fully leafy. The bayou section (where we stayed) has rustic, informal gardens around little ponds and creeks and the mansion section has very formal gardens with fountains and manicured grass. It all depends on your personal taste. No matter where you are in the resort, you'll still see the mist rising off the river as you walk to breakfast (very pretty) and you'll still have the same size room. Have fun!

PS - we didn't see a single lizard the whole week. We did, however, see 2 armadillos on the way to MK.

My sister and I, who are going on this trip, stayed in Bayou back in May of 2000 and we loved the scenery and the rabbits we would see and just the stroll through the walking paths. I have stayed at all three moderates and believe this is my favorite which is why we decided to stay there again.
While I'm asking away, for those of you who have stayed at Mansions, which one would you prefer to stay in? We have a car, so close to a bus stop is not a priority for us, although we wouldn't mind being close to the foodcourt.
Thanks for all of your replies so far!

Just to let you know tho, I requested Mansions for my birthday trip, and still ended up in Alligator Bayou. I was very disappointed because I really wanted to stay in the Mansions, but the AB room was quite nice.

My personal preference is Alligator Bayou. It has more a 'theme' than the mansions, they always feel very plain to me.

Of course, the last two times I've requested AB I've ended up in the mansions. It can also depend on what other room requests you make. The trundles are in the Bayou. And I believe the king sized beds are in the mansions (someone feel free to tell me I'm wrong cuz I want a King room and don't like the mansions :p ).

No matter which area you stay in this is a beautiful resort, one of my favorites. I spent my last trip at Wilderness Lodge, and even though I enjoyed it, I had to go back to POR cuz it's my favorite. :teeth:
