Thursday 17th August ~ Day 15
I was up at 5.45am and got showered before waking the rest of the gang up. We packed our last bits and pieces and we left at 6.30am. Now MyTravel have started a new early check-in service at an office up near Wet & Wild, so for $10 each, we can check-in, get rid of our cases and get our boarding cards. We got there for 7am, and it opened moments later. We were the only ones daft enough to be there at such an early hour, but within 10 minutes we were on our way back to the Pop.
We had breakfast in the food court, and we said Goodbye, but see you in the New Year to the Pop and headed to MGM Studios. We got there around 8.45am, but once again they didnt let us in till 9am.
We rode Tower of Terror once, RockNRollerCoaster once and Star Tours. I had another tattoo put on (waste of time as the weathers been naff since we got home and I couldnt wear anything that showed it off ~ LOL). The girls had their lunch in Pizza Planet and then we went over to see the Beauty & the Beast show. While we were watching it began to pour down. So when the show finished we dodged into all the shops on our way out of the park.
Sadly we drove out of WDW and as we hit the Toll Road to Sanford, we entered a really bad storm. The lightning was flashing everywhere and you could hardly hear the thunder as the rain pounded on the car and it was almost impossible to see out of the window.
Thankfully we drove out the other side of the storm and stopped off at the Oviedo Marketplace mall (about a junction down from Sanford), where we had a quick wander around the shops and grabbed something to eat from Subways.
We got to Sanford around 3.30pm, handed our car back to Alamo, and then joined the long line through security. Thankfully the problems with the threat to the planes that had happened the week before didnt really affect us. We knew not to bring any drinks with us, and I threw away my lip gloss and lip balm in the bin as I got to security. I did laugh when I tried to get through the metal detectors, as I had sorted out the girls stuff, took off my shoes, shown my camcorder, took off my hat and when the alarm went off, I realised that I still had my backpack on. So I put it on the conveyor belt, went through (minus the alarms) and picked up everything at the other end.
We went up to the departure lounge, had a quick snack, wandered around the duty free (where you could still buy liquids ~ i.e. perfume and alcohol, but they took it and gave it back to you as you boarded your plane) and within no time they announced that we could board the plane.
The plane left on time at 6pm and we were told that due to tail winds we were going to get home 45 mins early.
The flight was uneventful. I watched the Pink Panther (dreadful movie) and then I had a restless kip. V for Vendetta was also on (I didnt watch it) and occasionally I would catch bits of The Two Ronnies and my fave episode of Father Ted (the one with Victor Meldrew in it).
We landed at 6.50am and once we picked up our cases, we phoned the Meet & Greet to meet us with our car.
We got home around 9am and we all went straight to bed for a few hours.
**The End**
Highlights
It was a fab holiday, we loved Expedition Everest, the quietness of the parks for the first 10 days, me & Paul having some time to ourselves and meeting up with friends.
Lowlight
The crowds that came with the free dining plan.
Other
Our Disney Dining Experience card was a great asset. This holiday we were trying to keep things to a budget, so we did eat loads of times at the Pop Century and we were also able to use it at Chef Mickeys. It has more than paid for itself and we can use it in the New Year too, especially as weve got 3 character meals booked.
Paul also thinks that it must be a great bargain to have the free dining plan, personally after seeing the crowds that came during its first week, Id rather pay for my food and come earlier in the Summer.
Thanks everyone for reading my trippies and leaving your lovely comments. I dont usually write a day to day report (I usually do a report from each park), so I hope it hasnt been too boring as basically it was up early, eat, park, sunbathe, shop, park and the odd drinky-poo along the way.
Thanks again
Mandy
p.s. Roll on the New Year
