We have booked 3 nights at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, DC in July.
Does anyone have any experiences there?

I have not, but I have a friend who really likes NICE hotels. She says that is one of the best hotels anywhere!

Thanks. I have a feeling we will be like a fish out of water in a swanky hotel.
I'll probably be looked down upon in the bar when I ask to put on ESPN instead of Masterpiece Theater (whatever channel that is on?)!

Somehow I don't think you'll have much time for watching TV! You are right in the midst of everything for touring the museums, walking around the tidal basin, and a short metro ride from shopping and good dining. I'm only 20 minutes away and can't really justify the points, but if I EVER have some holding or reservation points to blow, this will be it for me! I'll leave my car in suburbia, jump on the metro and be there, lol! Our prior DC choices were interesting - ie the Jefferson, but nowhere near as enticing. Enjoy.

I haven't stayed there but we spent time in the hotel in early April. The hotel is really beautiful and the staff was outstanding.

I did get the opurtunity to stay there for one night when my sister was there on business. I thought the hotel was very nice. The only problem was finding a place to eat. I happened to have my baby (5mo) with me and the hostess at the resteraunt told us to go in the bar to order hambergers. While in the bar area (with the baby) we were told that we had to go to the resteraunt to eat. After we got that settled we enjoyed the food. The dessert was great! I hope you have a great time.
Enjoy

We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental in March for three nights. It was a very nice hotel and you can walk up to the national mall easily and there are several restuarants near by. Very upscale, which my daughters loved. They loved how they turned down the bed at night and left a mint on your pillow. We felt like country come to town but we enjoyed our stay. Hope this helps.
(they also had a heated indoor pool which they liked as well.)

I have heard that their signature restaurant is wonderful. Let us know how your trip was.
