Eldest DS (pictured below) has qualified to compete at the British Long Course Championships to be held in Manchester commencing on 25th March, as this will mean us staying for a week in Manchester both boys will have to miss a week off school as there will be no one at home to look after the youngest he gets to come. DS has a rest day on 27th and would dearly love to take Youngest DS to Old Trafford as he is a great Man U supporter - but we are staying near the aquatics centre - is it easy to get to Old trafford can I get a tram/bus or would it be best to drive. Thanks for any help.

Manchester transport is very good, being near Oxford Rd( i think that is where the aquatics centre is) you are well placed for public transport, there is usually buses every 5 minutes, it is one of the busiest bus routes in the country.
You could get a tram or train from piccadilly, if you walk up to oxford station you can get a bus free(with purchase of tram/train ticket) to piccadilly station. if you do a search on the internet you should easily find time tables to plan your journy before you go.
Trains also leave from Oxford rd.
If you have a car then you could drive,:)

The number 250 bus goes past the aquatic centre and stops directly outside Old Trafford. The destination on the front of the bus will say Trafford Centre. They run about every 15 minutes. I think the trams only stop at Old Trafford itself when there is a match on, but I'm not too sure!

If you decide to drive, then it is only about 5-10 mins from Manchester city centre :)
