Manchester airport hotels

I have just booked for next year and I am looking for any recommendations for hotels at Manchester airport. We usually drive down the day before and stay a few miles away but we are considering getting the train direct to the airport. This would mean that we would need a hotel close to the airport for the night before we travel. I don't want anything too expensive as we will probably need 2 rooms as my sons will be 16 and 18 by then.

Has anyone got any hotels that they would recommend or any tips on travelling to Manchester airport by train (we are travelling from Edinburgh) as I have never done this before.

Thanks
Ann

There are lots of hotels near to the airport all with transport to the terminal. One of the cheapest will be the premier inn, it was only built. a few years ago. You also have a travel lodge next door, a Marriot and another hotel called Etrop Grange all within 5 mins. Right next to the airport is the Raddison, and the hilton.
Not sure what stations your train stops at but Wilmslow is the nearest. I do know London train stops here.

We've booked the radisson for the night before our flight on sept 30th, £129 for the room and car parking for the following 15 days, not bad really, plus it has a direct covered walkway from the hotel lobby to terminal 1&2

I don't think you are able to get a direct train from Edinburgh, but I do know that there are trains to the airport from Preston, so my advice would be to change at Preston (about 30 mins from Preston if memory serves me right).

The railway station at Manchester is only a 5 minute walk to terminal 2 (where Virgin fly from).

I can recommend Bewleys Hotel. Room and 16 nights parking was approx £100 for this year, the breakfast (which is a great start to the day) is £8 or £9 but there are sometimes offers when you pre-book.

As for the train. You can go direct from Edinburgh to Manchester Airport  I got this from the Pennine Express website - it's about a two and a half hour journey.

We are flyiing out of Manchester to Orlando in OCtober and we have found the best way (and the cheapest) is to book a Premier Inn near Manchester (if you book quite a way ahead they do rooms for £29.00) and then we have booked the car parking at Manchester Airport separately.

We have previously booked the hotel and parking as a package but have booked it this way as much cheaper - giving us extra spending money.

Premier Inn Freight Terminal recommended. Newer than its sister hotel. £5 parking on top which we did not realise though., but still are returning this year, no noise, and can also recommend MIA - Meet and Greet, Drive to airport and they take car off you, return to airport for you on return, Most hassle free start to our hols yet, no waiting in cold/rain for taxi/bus etc.
Keep checking discounts for Premier inn, have not paid more than £29 for a room yet.

The Radison at the airport is great and their family room is two interconnecting rooms which is fabulous luxury ahead of holiday. The hotel is also only a few minutes walk along a raised futuristic style walkway to t2.

We caught the train to Manchester this year Ann, from South Wales though, we had one change at Wilmslow and then straight to the airport, it was hassle free. We got a taxi to the Travel Inn and caught their transfer the following morning.

Next March we will get the train again, I've booked the Radisson Blue as we realized last year we could step off the train, go up two escalators and be at the hotel, and then walk across to the terminal in the morning, it seems very convenient to us. I paid 125 pounds for our room for next March.

We stay in the radisson which I can recommend but you may think it is too expensive with needing the 2 rooms. However it makes a great start to the holiday. We use the pool, sauna and steam room on the evening which is so relaxing. Then have an airport view and see all the planes coming and going, adds to the excitement :)

Thanks everyone. I booked the Premier Inn Freight terminal. I like the look and sound of the Radisson but I just can't justify the cost when we need 2 rooms. We won't get there that early so really just need somewhere to sleep for the night.

The train is looking more appealing the more I look into it. I can get one direct to the airport! Can't book that till nearer the time so I have plenty time to consider all of the options.

We just booked a room at Bewleys (we're from Glasgow). We picked it as we're getting the train down and the £20 difference in the room was the money we'd pay for the shuttle back and forth. Bewleys has a free shuttle and is fairly near the Terminal we're flying from.

Ok, I just cancelled it and booked the Radisson. It will be less hassle - hope it is worth it!
