A local park in Ft. Myers has a day every year for environmental awareness. I took my two youngest DDs out there on Saturday for it.

wow, how beautiful!
I was just thinking today that this would be a great week to take a ride up there. I'm sure all the manatees are heading for warmth right now. I hardly ever visit this part of the board and there was your thread! How cool.

It is worth a trip over there right now. One of the parks people told me that there are about 15-20 different manatees at the park about every day right now. They like the warm water coming out of the FPL power plant. There were alot of butterflies in the garden also. My pictures of them were from a special exhibit tent they had b/c it is much easier to get them to stand still for a shot. It was my first time to the park. We live in NW Cape, so it is a pretty long drive for us. I will be back now though.

not to high jack this thread...but do you know how long they will be there? We went years ago and thought we might stop there again. We are going over Easter week to that part of Florida.

Where is this park? My kids would love this!!

Get off I-75 at Palm Beach Blvd. SR-80 and head East towards Alva. It is only a mile or so off the interstate on the right. It is across the street from the FPL power plant. I believe that on normal days it is a free park, but on the day we went it was $5 per car due to the special activities.

The park people told us that they are there all the time, but mainly when the main waterways are cool. That should still be the case at Easter.
