HOw do you manage owning 2 UY at different home resorts. I understand there will be 2 member ID numbers but at once the timeline permits can you make use of all your points for a reservation? Or prior to that do we need to transfer points from one UY to the other and when you do that is the transfer available only on current UY points or can you transfer borrowed/banked points?

With 2 different UY's if you wanted to combine points on a single night or just have one single reservation and don't have all the points required in one UY then you would need to transfer points. And DVC usually only allows current points to be transferred not banked or borrowed. They also are only supposed to allow one transfer per year but when it's a common ownership transferring between the UY's they sometimes overlook that - but you're best off to consider that as the rule and anything else would be an exception.

We have 2 UY's and I've transferred points a couple of times but it's far more usual for me to book part of the reservation with one UY and the rest of it with the second UY and then have MS link the reservations so that we can stay in the same room.

You have to be careful if you transfer. The year has to match (like 2014 and 2014). You cannot borrow transferred points, but you can bank them. So if you transfer from a UY that is later than the first, you might wind up with points that can't be used without borrowing. Then you have to make two separate reservations and link them. But you will have to check out and back in again.

The transferred points retain their home resort and UY.

MS has typically been very helpful/generous when assisting members with multiple memberships. We have been allowed to transfer points between memberships even when we have already used our "one-transfer-per-Use-Year". Usually, we have been able to just reserve whole nights with points from one membership and then link the reservations into one seamless stay, but a few times we needed to transfer points between memberships to maximize the points needed and MS has always been very accommodating.

I'd always suggest calling MS for any reservation where a transfer between memberships might be needed and let them assist however they can.

Enjoy! :)
