Man overboard on Carnival Celebrity?

That is horrible what happened to the poor boy. Those poor parents. The Embassy suites (which we often stay at) always made me nervous with those rails. I always just made myself calm by convincing myself something like that just wouldn't happen. I think I will ask for the first floor the next time we go.

They have evidentially suspended the search for him. I don't know about falling overboard but...on our last cruise...DH was missing for a few hours. DD and I searched and searched the ship for him and could not find him at any of the usual places or even the unusual places.

DD finally found him fast asleep tucked into a corner, out of the sun, at the Quiet Cove pool. I had walked by there several times, casually looking, but he had moved his lounge chair so he couldn't be seen unless you walked over to the pool and actually looked around.

I had forgotten about that until I read the news reports about the missing man. Interesting.......

Before you hang this woman, please notice her statements are not in quotes. It could be that the writer's phrasing is what seems odd, not her answers to the investigator's questions. She may have said her husband often gets up as early as 4 am, so the searchers assumed he could have fallen off that early. Just something to think about.

I can't picture anyone committing suicide or murder on a cruise, but you never know.

Then there was Amy Lynn Bradley, 23, who disappeared from the cruise ship Rhapsody of the Seas en route to Curacao in March 1998. There's no indication she was ever located.

A friend of the missing man and his family is a regular poster on fodors.com. The friend said the man leaves behind a wife and 13 year old dd (both were on the cruise with him). The friend's dd is the best friend of the missing man's dd. The family does not think it was a suicide (of course, I know some suicides can be unexpected). The dw and dd are distraught - doesn't sound like dw murdered him or that he was looking to slip through customs. Very sad...

I retract my previous cynical comments on my other post.....I do feel bad for the family but can't for the life of me see how anyone can just fall overboard....unless it was some freak accident. My heart does go out to the family.

I do remember reading that last year on Carnival a very intoxicated man decided to do chin ups on the outside of his veranda railing. Not sure whatever happened to him.....I think the ship was headed back into port in New Orleans.

Possibly went down to pay the onboard charges and lost it when he saw how much had been charged

Whether it is legit or not is hard to say. However with the little bit of information we have on here how many of you have been with your spouse and child on a cruise and not seen one another from 4 am on the final morning when you're getting ready to get off, pack, have breakfast etc and wouldn't report it or have him paged?

Insofar as the family not feeling it is suicide. That is natural human nature. Oft times family members don't see signs that could point to suicidal tendencies, and alot of times they aren't even exhibited, but do exist.

Hopefully the "mystery" is solved for everyone's peace of mind.

Also scross down that page and check out the September 4th entry...seems suicide onboard a cruise ship does happen more than we would think (though not saying that is what happened to the most recent man, though this website is listing it as a suicide...but that is a personal website)

I also think it would be hard to fall overboard as the railings are about 3- 4 feet high all around the ship. I have also seen several STUPID!!! parent's Letting their small children sit on the ledge with their feet dangling over the water. so they could see better. They were holding on to them but if they slipped they would be dead. I have had to hold my toungue not to tell them how dangerous this is. Maybe the guy was playing "King Of The World" and slipped.

Just a few nights ago, I was on my (Magic)balcony alone looking down at the ocean rush by. I remember thinking how easily someone could leap over the rail and be swallowed up in a silent moment. No one would have a clue. I then backed up and into my cabin very quickly! If someone is suicidal, a cruise is not the place to be.

And no, I was not considering it myself, only thinking how easily someone could do it that wanted to.

Don't forget the "suicide jump" on the Magic (not to mention the foolhardy teen who jumped off, although not to commit suicide...fortunately he was okay). Sadly, it does happen, although I can't imagine why someone would want to do it on vacation with their family along.
