Man charged for molesting girl aboard Disney Magic

While there are a great many details missing in this story the one that bothers me is the statement that it happen 3 times. Why weren't the parents made aware after the very first time? We have already used this as a teaching moment with our daughter. Do everything you can to avoid it the first time but tell everyone if something inappropriate happens. I feel terrible for the girl and her family.

Isn't it possible the guy told the girl not to say anything, threatened her, maybe the girl was scared, or all of the above. I would not put any of that on the child or the parents.

when I read that he fondled her three times I took it to mean that he did it three times in the same time frame. I don't think it was three different circumstances, at least not the way I read it, and three times in the same time frame makes more sense to me. we will probably never know for sure but that's what I take from it.

Seems like you are blaming the girl. The girl is the victim there is no need to blame her. 1 in 3 girls will be molested before they turn 17. Average molester will molest between 200-400 times before he/she is caught. Yes they must tell everyone if something bad happens but no need to blame the girl why she didn't tell her parents right away. And maybe she did maybe the 3 times happen in a matter of a minute

Not only do I consider it possible I think it's probable. I never said it was the parents or child's fault as I don't believe it ever could be. Unwanted advances are never okay regardless of what the victim says or does. I merely said we used it a teaching opportunity with our daughter. Tell someone. Tell anyone until you are not only listened to but heard.

I suppose that, too, is plausible. No matter when, how, or how often it happened, the act is reprehensible if it turns out to be as reported.

Sigh...

Perhaps I should write longer posts to clarify every possible way something should be read or avoid the discussions all together. Silly me.

So I won't be misunderstood further...

It is never, never, never, never the victims fault. I never meant to imply anything but that I, as parent, need to make sure my child knows that she can and must always trust us enough to talk to us about anything.

It's stories like these that make me very nervous about letting my DD6 go into the kids play area alone. We are going on the Dream in February for our first cruise.

You probably shouldn't worry about the kids clubs (at least no more so than other professional day care situations that you may encounter).

The previously reported incidents (and I predict this one) did not happen in the kids clubs. IMO, it would be almost impossible for a kids club CM to molest a child in the club unless multiple CMs were colluding in the crime. The spaces are open and there are multiple CMs at all times. The CMs are not allowed assist children in the toilets.

Also, I think the hiring process in the kids club is different than other positions. All of the club CMs that I have talked to seem to have previous child care experience.

We're going on the Magic in a few months and I am not worried about the clubs over this... in my opinion I think some of the best of the best crew members are in the clubs... this is really sad though, many prayers for the victim and her family.

Yikes, we were on this cruise with our 13 year old daughter. Glad I am super picky and didn't allow any roaming the ship by herself.

Saddest part is that 70 percent of the time its by someone they know or a family member. I think its very hard for a victim to come forward. Im glad she told her parents. Im sure there are kids that never do.

This is why I don't let my DD sign herself in or out of kids clubs. Maybe some day.
The victim was 13. There is no option for requiring an adult to sign a 13 y.o. in and out of programming. If that is an issue at that age, your child wouldn't be able to participate because they have the freedom to come and go from their club at that age. CMs will not force them to stay.

I find it odd that only one news station is reporting this. Usually the Orlando press is all over any news related to Disney.

Since it happened in Miami I'd best most of them don't have inside sources there so have to wait for Disney to say something.

My daughter doesn't know this policy. So I'd still be able to tell her to text me when leaving so we could meet outside the club. So sad this happened.
