Can someone give me back ground on Mama Mia's for the fantasmic package. I've heard it's a must do. What's it all about, what am I in for and is Mama Mia's a good place to dine?

It's called Mama Melrose. Overall, I'd say it gets average reviews. We thought our meal there was fine though. I have not done a Fantasmic package there, or anywhere else but that's not really relevant to how the food is.

We did a F! package there this past May and were very happy with it. Dh and I both ordered the steak and have to say it was one of the best flavored steaks we've ever had. The antapasto plate was awesome as well.

We did the package last xmas week and had a great meal. With the F! pkge, you get app, entree and dessert, even with regular DDP. I had great salad, flatbread and no-sugar added dessert..all very yummy; DH had salad, steak and dessert(can't remember his) and he loved the steak..more than the prime rib at Le Cellier the night before. It is a very leisurely meal as they make everything to order..you can watch the open kitchen chefs. I even stopped and talked to one of the chefs on our way out..told hime how great everything was. We are doing the same this year..1:30pm lunch at MM and 6:30pm show on 12/29/11.

Mama Melrose isn't bad. I don't think it deserves some of the savage reviews it gets on the Dis.

Don't get me wrong, this restaurant won't knock anyone's socks off... but the food is decent enough, well in line with the consistent smidge-above-mediocrity that Disney dining seems to aspire to these days.

I completely agree with nytimez -- it will not go down as one of your favorite restaurants, but it is far better than what I read here. We did it on our second trip back in '02 and actually liked it very, very much. It was not an "all-Disneyed-out" restaurant -- it looked like a neighborhood restaurant and we thought the food was good and solid. Trouble is we really enjoy Brown Derby and Prime Time and usually just do one dinner at that park on our trips and Mama Melrose always loses out. Would have no problem eating there again though.
