Mama Melrose's

Yes they serve bread w/ olive oil

Unless they started it up again this year, they stopped serving the bread with olive oil. It was a huge debate on here late last year that Mama Melrose no longer served bread. You can order the Artesan breads as an appetizer, but then again you would have to do that out of pocket since appetizers are no longer included.

Are you on the dining plan? I wasnt sure by looking at your ticker if you were there for free dining..

We love Mama Melrose and usually do the fantasmic dinner package. with the package you get an appetizer even through the basic ddp doesn't include it. :thumbsup2 plus tickets to the show.

Would I do the fantasmic dining package if I had to pay oop? no... its too much food for us, but is a great value on the ddp.

oh, by the way..yes we do like the food too::yes::

Well, that's sad ;) . I was so happy when the other post said they do! :lmao: Thanks for the info!

I am so happy to hear these reviews!! We also are planning on going in December, and I was semi-hesitant, but you all just put my mind to rest!;)

I was looking at ordering the Pasta Diavolo (shrimp, mussels, and clams) or the steak w/ the gorgonzola sauce. Has anyone had any of these, and what were your thoughts?

Thanks.

We went last year and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting but it wasn't great either. I had chicken parm I think which was ok, although the sauce was a but bland, DH had a flatbread which he actually really enjoyed. However he didn't like the tiramsu but I had a sugar free lemon custard type dessert, which was really good.

Service was ok, but too rushed for me, we were just finishing our apps when the entrees arrived. Overall given the options available at DHS, we'd probably return but its not a 'must do' restaurant for me.

It seems like the FDP is selling out for MM from various reports I hear. I couldn't get in for 12/10 on the FDP. I'm gonna keep calling back...so I guess Mama Melrose is becoming pretty popular.

There have been some report from Disers lately that the complimentary bread at Mama Melrose is back...I hope so, it is just not Italian without bread as a starter! :goodvibes

This is :offtopic: but, Tinkntraining (love the name!!) I have to say the second photo in your siggy (backs facing the MM head) is so cool! I Love it! :)

Thanks for your kind words! :) It is my absolute favorite photo ever -- it was our first trip and the photopass photographer suggested the shot, as we were looking toward the gates of MK. My DH thought he was the biggest dork, ever, wearing Mickey ears, but then having it embroidered with his name, too?? But, I'm so glad he gave in.....I owe him big-time for that one! :lmao:

And, when we were at Mama Melrose's in May, the complimentary bread with olive oil and/or butter was officially back! They must've listened to the DISboard!

We were there in April and it was our least favorite meal, but then again we loved all our other meals. My husband had the wood grilled shrimp with pasta and that was good, but the chicken parm, which I had, was not good at all. Our four kids ordered the pizza, which seemed to be on a pita and none of them liked it and they were starving. Actually the server dropped one of the pizzas on the floor in the back and it was going to take another 10-15 minutes to make another one so I asked her to bring out a bowl of pasta with butter instead. My kids were fighting over that. It wasn't horrible, but I don't think we would go back anytime soon.

Another example of how everyone has different tastes. My DH loved the chicken parmesan and has it twice out of three visits and I love the flatbread pizza. That is why I try to always encourage people to try each place themselves once because everyone does have different tastes.

YES! DH had the stead with gorgonzola and loved it! I had the wood grilled chicken and loved it too! This was our second time at MM and we have never had a bad meal!

We have always enjoyed our meals at Mama Melrose and had terrific service. After too many visits to Sci-Fi and Prime Time when the kids were small and not impressed with Brown Derby and detest Hollywood & Vine, it is the only place at the Studios we eat anymore. A lot of people will disagree with me as I disagree with them about H&V. I suggest you check the menus and if you see something you like, give it a try.
I actually COMPLETELY agree with you about HW&V.

Thanks for all the replies and advice everyone!

We aren't there for the free dining, but we are on the DP.

We have been to Mama Melrose's once and loved it; going back again this year.

Just returned home and ate at Mama Melrose last Tuesday. We LOVED it. And yes, there was bread with oil.

If you go, try to get Kevin as a server. (He doesn't work weekends) We had him two years ago and he was so sweet to my kids. I didn't think to ask for him this time but as our food was arriving I recognized him and told him how special he made our last visit there. Even though he wasn't our waiter he stopped at our table several times and gave the kids a small souvenier.

My whole family loved the food.

Based on reviews here, we too were hesitant to eat at Mama's in May, in fact, I kinda announced to my family the meal would be a let down. But it turned out to be one of our best meals of the week.

I also learned that week - a lot of the DIS's highly recommended and favorite food items just weren't for us. We didn't care for zebra domes, dole whips and figaro fries. Loved O'hana and Mama Melrose.
