Earlier today, I tried to make a dinner reservation at Mama Melrose for our visit in August but was told the latest available reservation was 5:00. Can anyone explain this? The park is open late in August and then there's Fantasmic..... I'm confused.

Thanks.

MGM restaurants only offer early seatings at first. At about 30 days out, you can call back and get a later seating. Hope this helps.

This is what I've been every time I call to get a 7 PM at Mama's. The CMs say there's nothing past 4:40, but to call back about 30 days out, when they release later times. I hope this is true!

....for a saturday nite. I hope their pizza is good!

Yep, it is! :D Its more of a flatbread type thing, but still very yummy! I have gotten the 4 cheese one, once on each of my last 7 trips. One of my favorite WDW meals.
Enjoy!

As for the original question, like the others have said definitely try back. We had a similar situation last August, but were able to get our pick of times, about 3 weeks before our trip. We are currently booked at 4:30 for August but we will be trying back again soon for a later time. Good luck!

Not sure if this always happens, but when we were at MGM recently, we went to Guest Services to see what kind of PS times they had. We were able to get a 6:00 reservation for Mama's at the last minute. They had many times available.
This is now one of my favorite restaurants! I can't wait to go again next week!

airhead,

is your 7pm PS for the FDP? I want to do Fantasmic on July 6, but can only get a 4 pm ressie for Mama's.

Aisling

The same thing applies for the FDP. I had a 4:20 ressie, was told nothing later available. Called back 30 days out and got a 6:50 ressie.

Speaking of Mama Melrose....what is everyone's favorite dish there? We are on our way this weekend and I have only been one time, had the Penne alla Vodka and loved it, but I want to try something different.

newmousecateer,
I hope I get that lucky, I"m at 32 days, so I'll start calling!

zelansky,
I've never eaten there, but have memorized the menu! LOL I'd love to hear the favorites.

Well, you have to like "spicy" for this one, Fra Diavolo..calamari, clams, muscles and shrimp with a spicy sauce!

Oh, and how about that parsley spread they give you with the bread?? Yummy!

Oh that spread is to die for! We had the ceasar salad, which was very good....but they did it differently. It was almost like chunks of salad leaves, and then they drizzled the dressing on top. I would have liked more dressing and suppose I could have asked for it. It was SO good. We then split the baked caprino cheese appetizer. My friend didn't realize caprino means goat in Italian, so when she agreed to it she thought it was like mozzarella sticks! I got to eat the whole thing...which was a good thing but not the next day when I put my shorts on.
Then of course, we had the Penne Alla Vodka, which was very good too. I have seen other posts raving about the Chicken Parmesan, I think I may have that next time.

As mentioned above, I really like the 4 cheese flatbread, but since they added the chicken parm to the menu, Ive enjoyed that quite a bit too. We used to really like the chicken, brocoli & pasta dish, but they dont have it anymore. :(

We have never recieved a ps for after 500 for The fantasmic Dinner Package at Mama Melrose. I really love this resturaunt but it is so much food for me my Dh can't usually eat all of his so I end up wasting food. We may try the buffet this time at Hollywood and Vine I don't mine paying but I don't like wasting food. So at the buffet I can just take what I will eat. Try the Chicken Pam. we have also got the Pizza with the Chicken not sure what the name of it is plus the great bread salad and desert.

KELLY-
When my friend and I were at Mama's last month, we split an entire meal: Salad, appetizer and an entree. Sometimes servers don't like that so I was a little apprehensive about asking our waiter if we could split a meal. He advised us it was fine and did not have an attitude at all about it. Naturally we compensated him with additional money in his gratuity, we made up for what a tip might have been had we not split the meal.
Anyway, this is what I will probably do from now on at most restaurants since naturally, leftover food gets left behind when on vacation!
I hate wasting food and even moreso - money...
