Malestrom Becomes "Frozen Ever After"

3 hour queue times coming spring 2016! Can you imagine standing in that never ending line of tiny Elsa costumes!

I am glad that they finally announced their target date for this. I welcome change, and this will probably be a lot of fun (admitted Frozen fan).

I will really miss "The Spirit of Norway" show, but Maelstrom was pretty lame, IMO. We only rode the ride to see the show.

When this ride does open, it will consistently have loooong waits. That's a given much like we see at SDMT in MK. It'll help draw more people away from the small amount of headliners Epcot does have (Test Track and Soarin') which will hopefully drop their wait times. One can hope.

I think it's a fair bet that the F ride will be Tier One. Even if it turns out to be as bad as the Little Mermaid ride in MK, it will immediately become a first choice pick for all the F fanatics. This should hopefully mean that TT and Soarin FPs will be easier to get as a 4th FP. And yes, even shorten their standby lines. We can only hope.

I plan to smile and wave at the F queue as I pass by.

I don't have an issue with World Showcase having actual rides that feature Disney characters with the flavor of a country. I'd have no issue with Ratatouille being in France .. I'd have no issue with Mulan being in China. And honestly, after this Frozen takeover .. I think they should do that with the World Showcase to spice it up and make Epcot more appealing to the younger kids.

The history and culture of those countries are shown in those movies. The movies are fantasy .. but the history and culture it is based on is not.

Frozen's story pulls from Scandinavian myth and culture. What difference is there if you see generic "Norway trolls" or the Trolls from Frozen?

Epcot needs more attractions. Period. Let's admit it .. Maelstrom (like most of the "attractions" in the world showcase) wasn't really that great to begin with. It just stood out as the BEST of the mediocre attractions around that lake.

While I agree it feels a bit out of place since Arendelle isn't a real country - I do think getting that attraction re-opened in Norway will help alot. Something else for little ones in WS is a good thing.

I will say this - the 5 yo girl I was with at Disney a couple months ago - she LIKE the little exhibit showing how scenes from Norway influenced the look of the movie. She understood that someplace real influenced the movie. So - for the few minutes we were there - she got the concept of Norway as a country/Arendelle is made up in movie. That's a long-winded way of saying - maybe it's not that bad of an idea.

Ratatouille takes place IN France. Mulan takes place IN China. Even Mary Poppins takes place IN Great Britain. Frozen takes place in a fictional land, loosely maybe based on some random Scandinavian country/area...Not Norway and definitely not the same as the examples above.

However, you are correct. Epcot needs more attractions. I just wish they were ADDING attractions. This isn't an add. It's a refurb to an existing attraction. The net positive, for me, is that it will siphon the wee-ankle biters and Frozen fans in DROVES over there, instead of clogging lines at attractions I do give a hoot about.

So that's good. See...I'm all about the positive!

I laughed out loud about how dismissive Tom Staggs was about people's concerns regarding the location.

“If the goal is to give people a taste of something like Scandinavia with the Norway pavilion, then ‘Frozen’ would only increase the extent to which people would be drawn to it,” he said. “To me it doesn’t seem out-of-character at all.”

Maybe its just me, but I thought norway was supposed to give a glimpse into Norwegian culture, not scandinavian culture in general.

The mexico ride is still about Mexico, not a fictional country. And 3 caballeros takes place in Mexico.

I was just reading, it said that they are going to make the princess meeting hall Norwegian looking?

P.S I'm not for this, I think it's a terrible idea mainly because that area can't handle the crowds and Frozen deserved its own new ride. But I still think it's almost the same as the Mexico ride.

Also worth mentioning, The Three Caballeros were added to existing elements. The original ride wasn't completely gutted.

That said, I'm pretty much in agreement, as The Three Caballeros additions are a lazy trainwreck.

What about Donald Duck in the Mexico ride? How is that different?

See my post below...

The Donald Duck ride takes place IN Mexico. And, while cute, the overlay, rather than adding a new attraction even back then was lazy at best.
