Alright, between my two sons, they have three female teachers & one male teacher. I think we will do either a nice plant or flowers for the ladies but what is a good end-of-year gift for the guy? He teaches grade five, he is 35 & he is newly married.....what should we get him?

I heard an ad on the radio today for gift cards for Harveys, Swiss Chalet, Montanas etc. saying they make a good teacher's gift. Then he can go out to dinner with his wife. Chapters also had apple shaped gift cards as an idea for teachers. He probably has way too many mugs.

My parents used to always give our teacher's a bottle of wine at the end of the year ;) My parents were teachers too they knew they needed it.

As a daughter of two teachers all I can say is anything but a mug! We always had a cupboard full of "best teacher" mugs. My dad retired last year and guess what the union gave him as a happy retirement gift - a mug!

I have to agree with the above posters - a bottle of wine and if you want to add to that a gift card to Chapters or the restaurant chains. All will be appreciated!

another vote for gift card here.....bookstore, sports store, AmEx good for anywhere, etc.

I'm a teacher and I am betting he would like gift certificates or a bottle of wine. I always love getting certificates for Tim Horton's!!!

Thanks everyone! These are great! Not too sure about the wine....I don't know if he drinks....but I may do that anyway or a gift certificate of some sort!

We always do gift cards - I was a teacher before I had my youngest and decided to stay home and trust me..... teachers have way too many mugs  We did Chapters for Christmas and we have done the Montana's, S.c, harveys ones for end of the year! We've done movie passes too. Something frivolous that is just for them!

the other thing we always do is give the teachers a cheque at book fair time and let them pick $30 worth of books for the classroom!

The past 2 years I've gotten my sons teachers gift cards for Scholars Choice and then they can go and get whatever it is they need for their classrooms for the next year. All three have been very appreciative of them as that comes out of their own pocket.

Just picked up Tim Horton's gift certificates for our DS grade 5 male teacher. Thought they would be a very safe bet.

As a wife of a teacher...gift cards are great to a bookstore, for music, Timmie's and we always appreciate some wine or other "summer refreshments".

When my dd had a male teacher.....
we always saw him walking around with a can of Vanilla Coke in his hand. For a gift we gave him a case of Vanilla Coke, some Turtles, and a sleeve of golf balls. He loved it, and joked to the kids it was his favorite gift of all because he knew he would use it!!

I would say chocolates, gift cards, golfing stuff, fishing supplies, stuff like that.

I've been down the whole store bought gift route and done every idea. lol
This year, the kids made brownies and giant chocolate chip cookies themselves and wrote each teacher a thank you note for a great year. Everything was made by them (except the cards - I make those anyway) and it was something they could be proud to hand over. And they made the treats according to teacher. One is a brownie nut and the other a chocolate chip fiend. lol

Those of you that give gift cards, how much do you generally give??

We just finished giving a bottle of wine to each our 3 kids' teachers. They were very appreciative.:dance3: I think the hot weather and wound up students had something to do with it.:rolleyes1
