My children (and I) have isseues with applying sunscreen. I don't like the feel of the lotions on my hands, they think the sprays are too cold and smelly...anyway, lately we have been using sunscreen wipes. These have been working pretty well. The only problem is they're hard to find out and about (I know I can order off of the internet, but would rather not have to wait for them to get here) and they are expensive. Has anyone out there attempted to make their own sunscreen wipes and succeeded? I would love to know what you did. Thanks.

Could you apply regular sunscreen using a wash cloth or paper towel--cotton ball or something for the face? I have never used sunscreen wipes, so don't really know, but was just curious.

Hmmmm.... it would definitely help in the morning...it's just the reapplication- trying to make the whole thing as portable as possible. thanks

I use the stick on my ears and nose because they seem to tan/burn more than my face even when I use a moisturizer with SPF 15-40.
Facial cleanser/soap gets it off well so the pores don't get blocked.

We used to make our own baby wipes. We used the fabric-like paper towels (Viva, maybe?) and added a little water/baby soap mixed. Separate and fold the sheets individually before you wet them or it's difficult to get just one or two.

You could use a bottle of the spray-on lotion. Just unscrew the top and pour some of the liquid into a plastic bag over folded paper towel sheets. Make sure to keep the baggie sealed or it'll dry out.

Neutrogena makes a wonderful sunscreen stick. It's a few dollars more than the others but well worth the price. It glides on, has a wonderful scent, and the oval shape covers more area quicker than the round ones. It also will work on wet skin, too. It's called wet skin kids 70 spf. Can't say it enough how much I LOVE this stuff.:cool1:

I also use the sticks on DD's face. This trip I did buy a few of the Banana Boat travel sizes I found at Target for our carryons.

Making your own wipes is an interesting thought though..

Seems like you'd still feel it on your hands even using the wipes. I agree with the Neutrogenia Stick, no problems with the smell. We had a nice spray from Hawaiian Tropic, but I hear sprays are not as good.

Why don't you just take some disposable gloves with you? Use the glove to put on the regular sunscreen. Keeps it off your hands, cheap and easy to carry.

That's my method. We had boxes of leftover gloves after my grandmother passed, just latex-free medical type that we kept around for her caregivers, and while we were able to donate the unopened ones that still left 2 open, mostly full boxes sitting around. I've found two excellent uses for them - applying sunscreen when there's no sink around to wash my hands afterwards, and chopping hot peppers without having to worry about scrubbing to get the oils off (all it takes is missing a spot once, then getting it in your eye while taking your contacts out to make you paranoid for life! :scared:).

I will "third" the gloves suggestion. I use them to handle raw meat, because I can't stand to touch it. I also use them to reach into the garbage disposal to retrieve lost silverware. :crazy2:Yuck! I guess I'm not the only one that hates to touch certain things with bare hands!!! They are easy to peel off inside out and toss.

I'd leave a box of baby wipes open so they'd dry out . . . then pour watered-down sunscreen over them (evenly) so it'd sink in.
