Making your own autograph book?

Anyone used a site like Shutterfly or Picaboo to create their own autograph book?

I'm trying to make one for my daughter but having to adjust the dpi of images so that they will print is really annoying me...

anyone have hints or tips on creating one of these? Thanks!

I just finished making 2 autograph books for our trip in October. I am SO NOT crafty, but I saw a few ideas online. I just used scrapbook paper/cardstock. I used some scrapbooking embellishments for the covers and modge podged them so that it would stay on. I can post a few pics later this week if you would like. I am currently letting the cover dry and set.

I made mine, but I did cards with photos of the characters. Then I went to the Dollar store and bought some cute 4X6 albums to slip the cards in. I made multiple cards for popular characters, and single cards for anyone we might hope to see. When it's over, we can put them back in and throw out the unsigned ones. That way, we won't have a sad page with no autographs!

That's a great idea rlthomas - I'm trying to decide what to do for my boys. I don't want to do just the generic autograph books. Last time I did the Shutterfly book but I did end up with with a page or two without autographs. I like the idea of designing and printing 4x6 cards and doing the album that way.

We didn't use Shutterfly or Picaboo, but we did make our own. They are pretty simple, but the kids love them Details here.

I've used both Shutterfly and Picaboo....we love these books! We have gotten many positive character interactions because of our books! I'm not sure what you mean about having to adjust dpi?? If you can give me more info, maybe I can help.

dpi - dots per inch. Images you find online are only 72 dpi and to print you really should have it 300 dpi. Inputting 72 dpi images into a site like Shutterfly or Picaboo you get an error message that says the image is to low quality.

I think I'm going with the 4x6 inch cards so we don't end up with blank pages in a customized book. AND we can put the autograph next to the photo of the character.

I have used shutterfly, but I used my own images so dpi wasn't an issue. Perhaps if you started a thread on the photography board here, some of the prolific photographers on the board would be willing to share some full resolution images with you, or point you to another source.

yeah I'm wanting to use the animated character images but again I think if I print it myself I will be able to better control the results.

I never used Shutterfly or any other site. I always make my own autograph books and I always use microsoft publisher and they usually come out really nice. The people at Staples love them, lol. I always print them out there because its just cheaper than wasting my ink from my printer.

We are going in 10 days and my wife is just finishing up this years autograph book. She gets Disney scrapbook paper and makes it so there are two pages for each character. One page is for them to sign and one is for us to tape a picture to of our girls meeting the character. The nice thing is the paper comes out of the sleeves so the characters don't have to hold a huge book when signing.

This is something I'd never thought I'd do (I'm not crafty), but I actually just finished making one. I started trying to do one on Shutterfly, and like the OP, it just wasn't working out. Plus, it just seemed so expensive! Well, I found an old tutorial on these boards, and boom. Done. For the cost of some card stock and Kinko's binding.

If you want the animated characters, then what about using the Junior encyclopedia of animated characters? It has a page for each character. Dd was given it for Christmas a few yearsts ago, and it's a great book for autographs! I've seen a lot of people on the DIS use it for autographs. We will definitely use it that way on a future trip.

I use Photoshop to make any size, resolution, or color alterations before sending pictures to print. GIMP or Paint.net are free Photoshop alternatives that work well.
