Making tutus

DD and niece would like to be good witches for Halloween. I thought I'd make them a tulle tutu for part of their costume. How much tulle for one? I'm thinking different colors - black, purple, and green. DD is age 5 and average size. DN is 3 and on the short side of things.

Also, which is better to use - the hair bands or ribbon to attach the tulle and use around their waist?

I just made this one, super easy! Just involves knotting strips of tule Took about an hour.

If I were to do it again I would not use the ribbon for the waist and use elastic and knot it. Kids just don't have the hips to hold it up!

IMHO, I would use ribbon for a 3 year old... granted, the headband will probably hold better, as a mom I'd feel more comfortable having my daughter with a ribbon tied around her waist - I'd be worried about my daughter getting caught on something!

The directions in post 2 are really good. I've made one using them and so has my SIL.
