Hello, and welcome to my attempt at a full trip report!!
BACKGROUND:
This trip my dbf (now returned to as "S") and I are headed to the world from June 10th thru the 13th. He would rather stay a full week, but since I am leaving my kiddos behind (dd19,ds17 and ds11) I could not leave them for that long.
I am in my early 40’s and work as a massage therapist. I have three kiddos at home (see above). DD just turned 19 and is graduating TODAY from high school. She is recovering from a pretty serious car accident and would be unable to do Disney (but would refuse an ECV), so there was no chance they kids were coming.
S is much older and works as an engineer. His wife passed away very unexpectedly 4 years ago. We live 70 miles away and due to my work schedule don’t see each other often enough. But enough about us!
This trip was happening for several reasons: 1. Because we wanted to spend some quality alone time with each other. We managed two quick, very local (9 miles from home) get-a-ways over the winter, but we always ended up back at my home to attend to the kids (and my feeling guilty). 2. We were celebrating our dating anniversary (keeping the exact time frame a secret); and 3. A possible marriage proposal, but shhh. I don’t know anything about that (wink).
In March when we were discussing our next adventure he asked where I wanted to go. Of course I said Disney. I honestly envisioned a 2 day trip, staying at CSR and hanging at the resort, monorail rides and Disney Springs (which I will always refer to as Downtown). But alias….who can really go to Disney and not “Do Disney”? S insisted on 3 day park hopper passes. I put up a stink, those suckers ain’t cheap (coming from someone who didn’t want to do the parks). But in the end I agree it would be nice to be able to come and go as we please.
PLANS:
POFQ 6/10 through 6/13
Friday: Arrival day: Hanging out by the resort, resort hopping, dinner at Raglan Road, with drinks, followed by the Hot Air Balloon Ride at Downtown (Thanks Group), then headed over to the Poly for drinks in the new bar and hopefully viewing the fireworks.
Saturday: EPCOT, dinner at Biagarten followed by a FP for the Illuminations
Sunday: MK Breakfast at BOG, FP for Buzz, Goofy (I swear that 7Dwarf replaced Goofy) and 7 Dwarf. Dinner at Yachtsman and maybe return for the fireworks.
Monday: No plans. Our flights don’t leave till late, we will probable re-visit EPCOT.
IMPOSSIBLE EVENTS:
First impossible Event: GREAT AIR FARE. I swear the airlines somehow tap my computer. Once we decided to head to Orlando in June I received an email from Southwest with great fares. I believe the fares were less than $150 per person round-trip. We booked for June 11th and returning on the 14th. (yes, I realize the dates don’t match my heading!)
Second Impossible Event: GREAT ROOM RATE: S had stayed at POFQ with his wife and son many years ago and liked the ease of hopping the boat to Downtown. Since the resort wasn’t a huge deal to me I agreed. And guess what? We were able to get a discounted rate of about $200 a night for POFQ. I have learned that POFQ is rarely discounted.
About 3 days after booking the trip I work up in the middle of the night. Crap! My ds11 has a promotion ceremony for school. We hadn’t received the date yet, but I just knew it had to be around our trip. Sure enough, I immediately emailed the teacher on a Sunday morning, who is amazing by the way. She got right back to me and confirmed my fears!!! The ceremony would most likely occur on June 14th. I begged, I pleaded, but nothing could get the school administration to change the date. (But I did try).
Third Impossible Event: NEW DATE/NO CHANGE IN RATE! I explained the issue to S and he was absolutely agreeable to moving the dates. He took care of changing the flights and hotel. We did have to pay an additional $35 for POFQ, but he swears the were no additional fee to change the airfare.
So the dates were now June 10th through the 13th. We leave s early on the 10th (6:45 a.m. and arrive in Orlando by 9:30 a.m.) and we leave pretty late on the 13th, arriving back into PVD at 1:00 a.m. on the 14th .
There are several things I wanted to accomplish on this trip: 1. Be Our Guest; 2. Seven Dwarf Mine Train; 3. Drinks at the new bar at the Poly. Of course once the proper booking window opened I jumped online and tried unsuccessfully to book BOG and 7Dwarf. I was growing discouraged, then I read a thread about how closer to your dates more availability opens up. Guess what??
Fourth Impossible Event: About two weeks before our trip I was able to secure both BOG (for breakfast) and 7Dwarf!
