Has anyone made slime with their kids? How does is turn out? What is the recipe? Thinking this would be a neat thing to do with my 4year old granddaughter.

We couldnt even buy glue in the stores for months because everyone was making slime! It is very easy and fun though. I can ask my daughter for her recipe - she just got it by watching youtube videos.

Yes, I'm a teacher and made it with my students during the last week of school. It worked really well, & it was a recipe that didn't require Borax (which is somewhat toxic):
  • One 4 oz. bottle of white glue (like Elmers)
  • 1/2 tablespoon of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution
  • A few drops of food coloring
You knead the mixture together for a while, & it makes great slime. Here is a link to an article & video about slime-making:

My daughter is obsessed with making it. In different colors. Different consistencies. It's been a good 6 months. I hope she gets over it soon.

THIS. THIS. THIS. UGH!!!! The glue, the glitter, the liquid starch......... so much slime.

OP just look on the internet for recipes. There are roughly 800,000. LOL!!! This slime craze can end now.

Oh the glitter. Then she takes my Rubbermaid containers to hold it all. Then they are full of glitter. Then there is glitter in my sink. It's never ending!

OP- I don't know DD's exact recipe but I know we buy shaving cream, Elmer's glue and laundry detergent. We stay away from Borax. I read a story of a little girl getting burns on her hands from playing in it too much.

YES! More than once I've had to go find my laundry detergent in my daughter's bedroom. Ugh - at least it washes out well.

This actually sounds fun. I remember having slime when I was a kid. We didn't make it ourselves, it came in a trashcan and it was just gross, but fun to play with.

OP-- Check your local Michaels. There are kits with everything in them. Our store had some for $5 up to $20. If you're still has the $5 that would be cheaper for you than buying all the ingredients separately, especially for a 4yo that may or may no like it.

My granddaughter has been obsessed with this lately. She's driving me nuts theres alway soap all over my bathroom counters.
Watches videos on you tube too.
Her other grandma made it with her a few weeks ago.

I thought you had to have 10 posts before you could post links? Interesting that this thread comes back from the past with first time posters posting links lol

I use this exact recipe, sometimes with a bit less water, and it works beautifully, and comes together quickly! This is the easiest, fastest, best recipe I've found.

DD and her friends have made TONS of slime over the past few years, and of course, I have been the one she has volunteered to her friends to take them to buy supplies!

Elmers has colored glue now (not just the glitter glue), AND Glow in the dark glue! How fun!!

Target had plenty of glue of all different sizes and colors last week when I was looking around the arts and crafts sections. A word of advice....buy it all now, because back to school is just around the corner! lol The second July 1 hits, glue will be scarce again. Last year, we could hardly find glue at all, and the lady at target said they always run low in the summer because of back to school shopping.

Elmer's also has a great website that has their recipe for slime on it - http://elmers.com/
