Making paper selections

Do you decide on the pictures you want to use then select the paper, or the other way around? I started my 1st scrapbook with my WDW trip pictures. I bought some Disney themed pages because they were so cute and some non Disney ones. Trying to decide which to use where can be quite a challenge for me.... let alone creating a layout.

Any tips?

I bought a lot of "cute" disney paper when I started out. What I've discovered is I don't use as much of the cute stuff as I had expected. I lay things out, move picture, change papers etc until I get something I like. Usually I use the disney paper more for accent, layering, photo boxes and use either a plain paper or something simple for the background. I rarely glue anything until I've let it sit for a while as I often move things around or change paper before I finally stick things down.

The disney paper I use the most are the ones with small, repeating patterns, that work well for backgrounds and layering.

Of course, everyone has their own way that works best for them - just play around with pictures and paper and I'm sure you'll figure out what works best for your pictures/book.

I do both. If i have pictures of something that matches paper i have ie, kids with Minnie and i have Polka dotted paper i use it. I use both the themed paper, solid and i use the CM albums so sometimes nothing but mats and pics.

Hope that helps.

I scrap JUST like that! :goodvibes My foundations tend to be plain cardstock and sometimes the small repeating patterns - I scrap more like an engineer than an artist - but i'm really trying to learn to use more 'defiantly' patterned paper by using it as borders, edgings, title background blocks, things like that. My stuff may not be in 'style' but it's a style I like

I love very patterned paper then get scared of it, or worry that putting pics on it is "wasting" it:lmao: So it sits there...... If I've got a lot of pics I want to show together I use plainer paper and jazz it with the elements (here's where the swaps come in:rolleyes1 ) if its just one or two pics I might use something bolder

Thanks all... nice to know that I'm really not doing it wrong. One of these days I'll get brave and start layering and using other fancy doodads.
My motto is becoming, if I like it, it works.
