Well, we are back. I have to say. We had a fantastic time. LItterally the best Disney Trip ever. The weather was AWESOME. The crowd levels were absolutely manageable even though we attended ESPN the weekend and some NewEngland schools were on spring break. I think we may have to wait a few years before returning.. we would just have a hard time topping this trip... That being said... off we goooooooo.
Making OFFSITE hip...DAY 1... in wich we travel and arrive.. and discover a stowaway.
I wont repost the members of our cast in great detail.. read the pretrip report if you are interested in who we are.
Me- Mom
Steven- Dad
Thing One- 11 in past trips has refused to ride almost all rides.
Thing Two- take special account of the fact that this child under normal circumstances does NOT EAT.
OUr trip started off so smoothly it was odd.. for us. I mean. Usually there are complications, snafus, at the very least a snippy arguement. But the plan.. and I did have a plan (what good DISer doesnt?) was to be completely packed and ready to leave before sending Dad off to sleep for a few hours. For mom to finish up last minute household chores and for things one and two to go off to bed assuming that they would be attending school for at least half a day..Well things went.. perfectly. Mom and Dad loaded the van.. gassed it up and placed a plastic Mickey bobbly head thingee onthe antenae. Dad showered and went off to bed at 8pm. Kids visited with the Grands next door until 9 and went to bed with no fuss.. Mom however who was to be finishing chores... spent 4 hours reading other peoples trip reports and didnt do much at all
2 am came and we were easily off. Those of us non-driving folk were awake for less than an hour and settled in to sleep.. well thing one did and Mom certianly did.... but Thing two stayed awake. And chatted.. and talked, and prattled at her dad.. (poor guy) Then she began complaining that her "tummy hurt" so with eyes still closed Mom handed her some chewable dramamine and snuggled back into her tink fluffy throw blanket and pillow. But the tummy ache didnt go away.. so we made stop after stop until finally about 4 am in Georgia the "crisis" passed. Little did we know, that this was the begining of a "whole new world" for thing Two.
I should have recognized it when we stopped near Jacksonville for gas and breakfast at Denny's. Thing two loves to order food, but rarely eats it. Ive accepted it. She just isnt an eater. She ordered some pancake, bacon, egg thing... and ate it. Every single bite.Whatmore she drank a cup of decaf (she LOVES coffee and decaf cant hurt her.. although you wont believe the looks I get from servers when I let her order it)and ate all the bacon off of my plate. I was surprised, but took it as a fluke.
Anxious to get to the magic we quickly got back on the road.. Thing one back asleep enjoying the time to rest, Thing two.. belly distended and smiling finally fell asleep. We made good time and were quickly in Orlando.
We knew how to find our resort.. wed been there before... but did you know that there is no exit 75a anymore? Its a little confusing at first butyou can do it. We were very early for check in.. (10 am ha ha) but I thougt Id try it.. and YAY! Not only was our room ready , but it was an upgraded pool view, and sure we could check in.
We found our room and it was beautiful. Not fancy, no mickeys on the soap, and no there wasnt a cool disneyesque pattern on the wallpaper. But it was clean, and it had a fridge and a microwave and I didnt have to pay extra for them.
We unloaded the van and then headed to SUPERTARGET to load up on snacks, and the like. I had brought some things from home, but we needed to find floaties for Thing Two and a few odds and ends (ever try to pack one of those bath poofy things? cant do it.)We grabbed lunch at Quiznos and headed back to the hotel to swim and relax. Again I should have noticed something.. thing two ate her whole roast beef sandwich, and chips. and drank some juice. Thats odd....I was begining to suspect a stowaway.
The fam all enjoyed the pool and the wonderful hottub (see? cant get one at Allstars can ya?) Thing two became the fearless kid I know and love and jumped from the sides of the pool for the first time and then became a fish in the matter of a few minutes.Thing One played an made friends as kids will do at the pool. I enjoyed a nap in the room while the kids and Dad played in the water.
As the sun was setting I heard the words from Thing Two that I hear often from her, yet rarely believe. "Mom? Im starving" So we cleaned up and headed to Olive Garden.. again not a Disney resturant.. and yah I could have made ADR to a resort resturant.. but I just wanted to save money. The food was awesome.. Ill report more on it in my dining report.Whats interesting is. Thing two ordered chicken fingers... and ate them. All of them, and some salad, and a breadstick, and some of thing one's soup. It was confirmed. We had a stowaway. A tapeworm in Thing Two's belly.
After dinner we went to Downtown Disney.. to shop around and to enjoy the atmosphere. Not to buy anything. We walked through the shops and watched people. I love that place. Its always been our first stop and like our intro to Disney World. We ate icecream at Ghiradeli's (Man! that stuff is soooo good. YAY for banana splits.. that strawberry icecream is awesom.)and made our way back to the hotel.
We put our kids to bed, and since the hot tub was litterally steps from our door we left it open a crack and enjoyed a nearly deserted pool area and drank adult beverages... loving being on vacation.
