I'm currently booked through a TA so I can get at least the AAA discount if no other discounts come available for our stay. (I did all the booking myself, she just picked up the reservation.)

If free dining or RO discounts come available and I price them out online and it comes out cheaper than what the discount is I'm getting through AAA, can I just make a new reservation and let the old reservation cancel itself out?? If I can, will my flights and ADRs transer to the new ressie, or do I lose everything??

I've read/heard of alot of people here that lose out on discounts because their TA took too long to call in and get it applied.

I've heard that AAA has some great TAgents though, so you may just have to make the call to them and get them to change your reservation over to the new discount if one came out after booking. I think that would be easier than cancelling the original reservations/transferring flights...etc.

Why wouldn't you just use a TA that you know will do a good job for you, or not use one at all.

Seems to me that stringing someone along and having them do work (even transferring takes work) for you just to pull the reservation is a little heartless. How would you feel if someone was doing that to you?

I would trust my TA with everything, she never misses a beat, and would feel awful pulling a reservation from her. Perhaps the people that didn't get their reservation discount applied wasn't because the TA took too long, perhaps it was because there was no availability for that discount on their reservation?

My suggestion would be; book it yourself if you feel you can't trust anyone, but don't take advantage of someone to help yourself.

I've honestly never used a TA before to know which ones are good/bad. I just happened to read here that AAA offers discounts after I had already made my reservation and when I called one in my State and she said we would save approx. $700 it seemed like a good idea. However when I've had a question, getting in touch with her was difficult.

Giving it further thought I would definitely call her first and ask her to try and get me a RO or FD discount (if it comes available for my time frame) before trying to get one on my own if she doesn't call me back.
