My DD is in Grade 2. A couple of weeks ago, she got the idea from chickadee magazine that she wanted me to make her unicorn costume!!
Anyone who has seen this magazine will know what I am talking about. You basically take a hoodie, add felt for a mane and tail, a horn and you're done. It sounds easy enough... but I am really not crafty. At all. I've made the costume but it's a pretty sad looking unicorn. And to top it off, her school has a big parade on Halloween, where all the kids march through the school showing off their costumes (parents often show up for this) and they end up in the gym where they have an assembly and get to admire each other's costumes. I'm really hoping my DD won't get teased over this. She's very shy, very quiet and won't stick up for herself at all.
For the record, I offered to go out and buy a unicorn costume for her. She really wanted me to make it. I also suggested wearing a different costume to school (we have a very nice Belle one) but she wants to be a unicorn.
I'm not really expecting solutions here, no one can help me and my lack of creativity, but maybe if anyone has a good idea how a very shy child can defend herself against some teasing, I'd appreciate it.
