Hi everyone!

My trip is all planned out. However, my dd (7) said a classmate just came back from WDW and made these "cool masks in China in Epcot". Do any of you vets out there know anything about this? I would certainly appreciate any input since I'm getting close to the wire (YEAH!)

Thanks

You actually make these in any country in the World Showcase. They are at the Kidcot stations in each country. It is a paper mask on a stick that you can decorate with markers. Each CM at the Kidcot station will attach a little paper charm from that country, and stamp the stick with the appropriate country stamp. They used to go along with the Tapestry of Dreams parade - the Dreamcatcher would collect a token from the mask during the parade. I was SO glad that when the parade ended, the masks were still available. These are my daughter's Favorite Disney souvenir (and they are FREE!). We bought Passports on our first trip - but no one bothered with them, and they make masks on every trip!

This was a neat souviner from my last visit. It's a really unique way to learn things about other cultures.

My kids (a boy and a girl) really enjoyed making the masks last trip. The only small negative is they can be a pain to tote around. We did WS in several smaller hits so we had to drag those masks back several days! We plan to do the passports this upcoming trip but by all means do the masks atleast once and they are free!!:hyper:

My DD loved this last year. She was 3 1/2 on that trip. Now that we are getting close to our next trip, she keeps asking if she can make another mask. It really is a nice thing for the kids to do. They get to look forward to something just for them as they walk WS.

My boys (3 & 7) also love making these masks. Be sure to ask the CM at each station to write the child's name on the back of the mask in their native language. For instance in China they'll write the child's name in chinese, in Mexico it will be Spanish, etc. I'm sure you get the point.
Have fun! Staci

ACK!!!! THOSE MASKS WERE A NIGHTMARE FOR US!!! :crazy2:

It rained. No it poured. We wrapped the masks in several plastic bags for protection, they still got damp. The marker ran. The cute-sie baubles that were hanging by yarn tangled. I hated everything about those stupid masks. We gave up. The kids were disappointed. But.....

Then we smartened up, pitched the stinkin' cardboard-on-a-stick masks and bought the Epcot passports instead. The kids went to all of the countries, had the CM's at the kidcot stations stamp their books, and they even wrote personal messages in the books in their native languages! Much neater, easier to carry, better for packing - and no one gets whacked with a stick as the kid waves it from their stroller!

Can you tell I hated those masks? :p I'd recommend the passports any day.....but the masks? Never.

Thanks for your input everyone. It sounds like it might be a bit time-consuming. Don't know how i'm going to weave more time into my plan. Thanks again--i now feel informed!
