Our family likes to eat pizza. I would like to start making pizza at home. I'm sure it is pretty easy. Tell me how. Do you make your own dough and sauce? Can you give me some recipes?

Thanks!

We use tortillas for quick and easy "thin" crust pizzas.

Preheat oven to 500º F.

On a baking sheet, place any size flour tortilla. Soft taco size works best but burritto size is okay too.

Spread 1-2 tblsp of spaghetti or tomato sauce. We usually have an open jar of spaghetti sauce in the fridge, so that's what we use. Don't oversauce, less is more.

Cover with shredded mozzarella cheese. Again, not too much.

Add toppings as desired (thinly sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, pepperoni, etc.)

Drizzle a little EVOO all over.

Bake for 5-6 mins or until cheese is melted and crust is crisp.

Remove from oven, slice and enjoy!

We like this better than any frozen pizza and it is much cheaper. Let me know how you like it.

May I ask WHY the EVOO all over? I would have never thought to do it? Does it add something or make it the pizza less "dry"? I don't mind using, just curiuos as to why? I want to try this recipe. I need quick & easy for DD's dance nights!

I make pizzas at home every couple of weeks. I buy the Jiffy pizza crust mix (49 cents a box and I can only find it at Walmart), pizza sauce & cheese and whatever else anyone wants on it. I usually make two 16 inch pizzas and it ends up costing under $10 for both and the kids love it.

I use the pizza dough recipe from a Betty Crocker cookbook.
It's very easy.

1 pkg. dry yeast
1 cup warm water
2 1/2 cups of flour
2 Table. veg. oil
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt

Dissolve yeast in warm water in 2 1/2 quart bowl.
Stir in remaining ingredients. Beat vigorously 20 strokes.

Let rest 5 minutes.

Heat oven to 425 degrees.

Apply toppings and bake around 20 minutes.

I use this recipe quite often.:thumbsup2

hi

we started family movie night last may, every friday I make a homemade pizza and homemade ice cream and we watch a netflix movie. I went to target and spent about $16 for a cuisinart pizza pan, great investment....then went to costco and bought a cuisinart ice cream maker for $40. I buy frozen pizza dough at the supermarket, you need to defrost it about 5 hours before use, then I roll it out nice and thin with a little flour. It goes onto the pan and I put chunky jar sauce on with some fresh mozzarella (again from Costco and very inexpensive) so much better then prepacked stuff. Sometimes I add eggplant, mushrooms, or some extra topping sometimes plain. Bake for about 15 minutes on 425 oven. Delicious:goodvibes, then we have ice cream cones for desert. It is our weekly routine now and we all love it. I actually prefer a homemade pizza now, go for it, it is easy and fun.

I use the dough from the market or trader joe's less then $1.50 and it makes two medium size pizzas. We roll it out and put it on the grill outside! It is wonderful. You don't put any toppings on until you flip the pizza...it only takes a few minutes and you don't have to turn on the oven! We have made it lots this summer and it is wonderful! Here is a link to the recipe that I found. We have used everything from pepperoni to BBQ chicken as toppings. Enjoy

We make pizza at least once a week. We use pitas with no pocket for the crust. I add garlic powder and oregano to tomato sauce and keep it in a container in the fridge for the sauce. Then add toppings. The other thing we do is bbq a piece of boneless chicken then slice it, use bbq sauce and pizza sauce 1/2 and 1/2 and add mushrooms, onion, and peppers along with the chicken and moz cheese to make a bbq chicken pizza! mmmmmmmmmm

Oh, another idea is to take mushrooms, zucchini, peppers, broccoli, onion and any other vegies you can think of and fry them in a pan till cooked but with a bit of crunch left. Then add a tbsp of pesto. Put the pizza sauce on crust, then this vegie mix, then top it with feta and moz cheese mixed, mmmmmmmmm We also use bagels as crust to make pizza bagels.

We :cloud9: pizza!!!

I make homemade pizza at least once a month. It takes time but the best part is (other than it's cheaper) you can make it exactly how you want it! Experiment. I always make traditional (only I use part skim mozz. & turkey pepperoni to reduce the fat) and our families favorite is alfredo sauce with artichoke hearts and ham. Who knew?

I wanted to add that I make double what we'll need (4 pizzas) and freeze two. This has worked out so well! Instead of a $5-8 frozen pizza we can have "leftovers"! I either buy the rectangle cake cardboards (found at any walmart in the cake decorating section) for my sheet cake pans pizza or I save the cardboard rounds from frozen pizzas and use those for round. I freeze them fully cooked and just put them frozen in a 350 oven for like 10 minutes until warmed through.

Check out http://www.pizzamaking.com/index.html. It's got everything from recipes to forums for discussing your pizza-making.

I've been making pizzas for about three years now and my family prefers it over any commercial brand (frozen or fresh). I even grew my own herbs this summer and was amazed at the difference fresh herbs in my sauce can make. You won't regret this decision because of the better taste and the money saved! :)

We make pizza on the grill all the time its delicious give it a try!!!!

My favorite is a pillsbury pizza crust (the thin kind).

I roll it out on my PC bar pan and prebake it for about 7 minutes. In the meantime, I brown bob evans hot & spicy sausage, rinse and drain, I sautee some mushrooms and onions in with the sausage, then about 1/2 to 3/4 cups of jarred alfredo sauce and mix it together.

I pour it all over the pizza crust, add a bunch of mozzerrella cheese and then bake until cheese is brown and bubbly.

It's my favortie pizza!

I make my own pizza all the time. Here's my dough recipe (for a bread machine)

1.5 cups of warm water, add 1 packet of regular yeast and let it sit while you measure everything else.

2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon honey (I tend to add a little more because it gives it a nice taste. I prefer local raw honey, yum!)
4 cups of bread flour

Add the water and yeast to the top and set the bread machine to pizza dough.

We make pizza at least once a week. I used to make my own crust, but have recently been buying the Rhodes frozen rolls. I like it because they thaw really quickly, and you can make any size crust you want. I've found about 9 rolls makes a crust for my 12" pizza pan. They take about a minute to thaw in the microwave. I just roll it out and top with spaghetti sauce or pesto, whatever toppings you like and then cheese. Bake at 425 for about 15 min.

Another poster mentioned Trader Joe's pizza dough...it is our favorite! Regular or wheat dough is 99cents at our TJ's...you can't make it cheaper/easier. It makes a really good pizza dough in the oven or on the grill.

We've also made bread sticks, calzones and strombolis out of it too.
Yum.
