Has anyone had success in making Fort Wilderness campground reservations on points? We want to pull our 5th wheel next January and stay part of the time in Ft Wilderness. When we called this morning to make reservations, we were told that there were no campsites available. Is this a true statement, or is this "there are fee sites but no points sites" similar to the airlines and frequent flyer points.

I realize that Disney and DVC has no obligation to honor the points in the Disney Collection but if that is how this is being sold, then there is the "aroma" of false advertising.

Had we hit the 11 month date instead of the 10 month date, would this have been the same story?

Call Disney reservations and see if you can book for cash. Winter is a popular time for snow birders in FW.

I did call Disney Reservations and found that with the exception of Feb 9 - 16, there was campsite availability. I called Member Services back and they show nothing.

Interesting to say the least. I did send an email to my DVC Rep to pose the question so I'm waiting a response. She is on the Disney Dream at the moment so it may take a few days to hear back. Depending on the response, I may send it on to the head of DVC just to make them aware of a dissatisfaction issue.

There are a limited amount of "rooms" in the Disney Collection. Just because you can get it on cash doesn't mean it will be available for points. DVC has a contract with Disney for a limited number. I ran into this one time with the Grand California before DVC opened there. It was available for cash but not points. They explained the number is limited.

I don't see that there's any basis for a complaint. It's not guaranteed that there would be enough Disney collection rooms for anyone who wants to book there using their points. You may be unhappy about it, but I don't think any promise or contract term is being broken.

I agree that we buy subject to availability, even with DVC rooms. In this case, there is none at the campgrounds. I I don't know how they determine how many rooms or options will be eligible .

Anyone buying in either knew or should have known this was not a guaranteed program and is subject to availability. The same thing happens with DVC rooms.

How many points does a campground cost, anyway? They always seem pretty cheap to me, but I imagine the point cost is ridiculous.

We are staying in the campground next spring since I burned through all my points already for the next year. Before we became DVC members, we camped every year for 16 years. I've read that you can make a cash reservation in the campground two years in advance! If I wanted to trade my points for a campsite, I would call at exactly 11 months out at 9:00 am ET. I think the campground is much more popular and hard to book than you think

It's not false advertising, it's advertising. It's the same for any point use other than booking a DVC room. All Disney has to do is offer 1 of anything on points to keep it from being false. A couple of years ago Disney Cruise Line was blacked out for point reservations for a year.

Your Guide is a sales person, she doesn't have anything to do with member satisfaction.

The executive in charge of DVC knows the restrictions that are in place because it's his/their design. Usually if Disney has trouble filling something, they will offer it to the DVC after they offer it to other groups.

Bill, you are absolutely right.

I thought I'd let everyone know what I have found out. The issue with the Disney Collection is very similar to that with airline points. There are only so many seats (or sites) available to be booked on points. There is no documentation that lets either member services or customer service (they wound up calling me).

What we're going to do is rent our our BWV & AKV points and then use the cash for the Campground. That just seems to be a much more elegant solution and will work better for us.

For any use other than a DVC resort, renting your points and using cash is usually a better deal with more options and availability.

Have fun at Fort Wilderness, we love it there. :goodvibes
