Making duplicate ressies for the same times

I heard on a pod cast that people are making several ressies for the same evening meals so they are not forced to stick to a schedule. This way if they are not wanting to eat Italian, for example, they still have a ressie at a steak place. Does anyone think this is true? Will the online system allow you to make duplicate ressies? Could this be the reason that some are not able to get the ressies they want?Deb

Currently, from what I've seen, the online system will let you do this.

BUT, the system also does sweeps and will delete these ADRs.

I had made an ADR for a dinner with my mom and I, and a separate ADR for DH and DF at another restaurant about 10 minutes apart. I got concerned since they were both under my ADR number, so I called to see what would happened. I had to cancel one, lost the time, and re-book a later time under my parent's room number.

So yes, I'm sure it's happening. It's horrible that people do this, but hopefully the system really will clear out the ADRs so those people will show up and not have anything.

It's true that people do that.

It's not true that the "system" catches these and cancels them. Word is that it is some zealous/rogue/whatever cast members that do that (meaning people, not the system) and it's been reported very very rarely that people have had that happen.

I think I've seen less than 5 reports of that happening to anyone.

I just made 2 ADRs today for the same time (I know - shocking) and the system simply noted that before I did my checkout on line and said "if these are for two different parties, please continue or if these are for the same party, please select one of the reservations" [or something to that effect]. It's not a policy to cancel duplicate reservations, because as the online system itself says - they could be for two different groups of people.

(And to all who care -yes, I will be cancelling one of my 2 overlapping ADRs long before my trip ever starts -- I do not agree with people keeping multiple ones and deciding the day of where they want to go).

Yes the online system does allow that. But given the difficulty of trying to get one lousy dining reservation( which I am positive I will keep) I find the practice quite rude.I have been trying for WEEKS to get one stinking ressie, so the fact that this is allowed ticks me to no end.Plus, the bigger issue is that people aren't even bothering to cancel.Just not showing up.Not right for those of us that have the foresight to make our dining and stick to it, or cancel in plenty of time.

There are justifiable reasons that the system has to allow you to book multiple ADRs under one reservation number. This past June we had a 2 bedroom at BCV and traveled with family. We were all under one room reservation number and there were several times we did not eat together for various reasons and had to book 2 different dining reservations at 2 different restaurants within an hour of each other. One night we had 3 ADRs with in 45 minutes. We did use all our reservations.

Yes, the system will allow you to make multiple reservations for the same times at different places. Because all the system can do, because it's just a big computer program, is look at numbers (reservation and phone) and dates and times. It can't apply any common sense. And we humans are crafty people and can get around just about any computer program.

However, Disney trusts their guests to do the right thing and cancel any seating they don't need. Yes, there will be guests who manipulate the system and won't care. But those people are in the minority. If it starts to become a problem, Disney will fix the system in some manner.

Also realize that not everyone who is booking reservations is staying at a Disney resort and even some of us who stay at a Disney resort prefer not to link the ADRs to our resort reservation - so even if you could trace two concurrent restaurant reservations to the same resort reservation, that wouldn't mean all the existing concurrent reservations could be found and eliminated.

Parties that don't want to eat together can just use a different name and phone number to book multiple concurrent reservations (assuming they are not booking +10 - to do that you must link to a Disney resort reservation number - otherwise you don't have to). There's absolutely nothing wrong with doing that. The problem occurs when a party that does want to eat together books two or more concurrent reservations under the same name and phone number, then picks one at the last minute and doesn't or can't cancel the others (cancellation only works if you do it more than 2 hours before the reservation).

To eliminate this entirely Disney would have to put in a screener program that locates concurrent reservations made under the same name and telephone number (resort reservation is irrelevant because there could be two or more different dining parties using the same resort reservation) and cancels them automatically. Parties wanting to split up would then have to know that they need to use different names and phone numbers. Problem with that is that parties not wanting to split up would then also be aware that all they had to do was use a different name and phone number for the concurrent reservations.

So there's really nothing to be done about it other than remind other guests to cancel restaurant reservations they don't want - and not at the last minute.
