Hi All

im currently in the market to buy some points, im look at OKW where i stayed last year as i thought it was great. I have been looking at the points since last year and i have noticed that the prices keep going up :(

I basically have £10000 or $17500 to spend and i want to get as many points as possible but i dont really want to spend $80 per point as i think that is way too much, but I am happy to pay $76 per point.

I was wondering if any one has been able to get point for less than they are going for? I was wondering if my negotiation skill will be any good or if i will be stopped in my tracks.

Info would be much appreciated.

You can make any offer you like. Just remember that closing costs will add approx.$5 a point, so if $76 is your max you are probably looking at offering $71 a point. We bought OKW last year at $69 a point.

Also bear in mind Disney may buy back the points from the seller (Right of First Refusal) if they deem the price the seller sells them to you at to be too low.

Yes :) They can do it for any sale, whether private or otherwise. It is done, I think, to keep prices "artificially" high.

They would not do it if you were buying direct from them, obviously!

The other thing to factor in I guess is the exchange rate. When I bought the attractive rate really made the purchase doubly reasonable :)

You can offer what you feel is reasonable, it's like buying a house: offers go back & forth. You can also negotiate to split the closing costs.
It also depends on how many points are available for use, if you buy a contract with no points to use for the next year you can use this to get the price down.

Good luck!

Hilary, you got a good deal at 69 pp!!

Can Disney do this if you buy from DVC timeshare?

When you buy DVC points you have to sign to say you agree to give Disney Right of First Refusal if you ever want to sell your points.

So it isnt up to the seller to decide whether to offer them to Disney, it is part of the contract they entered into.

If Disney do decide to exercise Right Of First Refusal (ROFR) it is not necessarily a done deal though - I have read of people whose offer was accepted by the seller but Disney exercised ROFR so the would be buyer increased their offer and Disney still refused but the would be buyer then increased their offer again at which point Disney allowed the sale.

Guess i will keep my offer close to what the asking price is.

It will all be worth it.

There used to be a thread over on the DVC boards which told you what contracts were selling at and passing ROFR at - don't know if it is still there. I would think that you should be OK passing ROFR at OKW at $76 per point.

You are in a strong position so if a seller refuses your offer of $76 or it doesn't pass ROFR there will be other contracts.
