Today we decided to take the kids out to our family's favorite pizza place for lunch. THIS time we rememberd to call John and he was very happy to join us. He was quite talkative through lunch. I noticed that he had a bruise on his cheek, so I asked him about it. Apparently, he got into a fight with his roommate at a bar. 
Both elbows are a mess and his right hand knuckles are all bruised and swollen.
The story is the boys were hanging out with friends at a local bar they like(they're all over 21.) John was supposed to be the designated driver for his friends so he wasn't drinking. His roommate drank way too much and became obnoxious, going from patron to patron trying to start a fight. John stepped in and told him to take it outside. The roommate took a swing at him, so John pushed and pulled on him and finally got him out into the parking lot. Then he tried to take Roommate's keys because "no way am I letting him drive like that!" Roommate got really angry and popped John right in the face, so John decked him. It must have been some fight, judging on how John looks. Anyway, John managed to take the keys and threw them up on the roof of the bar.
Roommate by then was all crying and telling him he loved him and he's so sorry. John just packed him up and took him home. I bet that was some ride. When Roommate sobered up, John took him back to the bar and made him climb up on the roof to retrieve the keys.
I was very proud of John for stepping up, even though he had to get into a fight to do it. I was surprised that the bar didn't call police( they were pretty hacked about the drunken tirade), but apparently John told them he would take care of the roommate and get him home safely. I"m really surprised that John would get into a physical altercation because he usually tries to stay away from that. But I'm really glad he kept this guy from killing someone!
Anyway, after we left we gave him the leftover pizza. DH took him to the store to find a dress shirt and tie for job interviews and DD17 helped him pick the colors. So I think John felt very comfortable and we all really enjoyed the outing.
