Making a reservation for a non DVC member

Can I change the lead name on the reservation? Or how does it work so that the person that I make the reservation for gets all the details? I never made a reservation that I did not stay in and now I want to make one for my sons family. TIA

You can put the reservation in your son's (or other's ) name as lead name. The reservation will actually remain in your DVC account until arrival and can be changed or canceled only by you until that time. Once you make the reservation, give the reservation number (and likely a copy of the reservation) to your son and he can then use that number to set up the reservation in his MyDisneyExperience account. Just note that whatever names you put in the DVC reservation must be the same exact names that are in the MDE account.

Also note, that if you initially make the reservation with you as the lead, you will need to call MS to change the lead. Any other named guests can be changed via modification online.

If you are making a new reservation, simply enter all your son's information into the system when you make the reservation. You do not have to be on the reservation to make it. If you already have a reservation that you want to essentially transfer to your son, you can do one of two things. I believe that you can leave your name as the lead and add your son's family to the reservation (and their address information) online as long as you don't go over the room occupancy limits. If they will put you over occupancy limits you'll need to change the lead name. You'll have to call DVC to change the lead name and information and the wait is likely to be very long. I would do it as soon as member services opens to reduce your wait time. You can then ask them to email the confirmation directly to him.

Enter him as a non-lead guest, and then use chat to change him to lead. Then you can change everyone else online.

Keep refreshing until chat is open.

This is exactly what I did when I booked my son and his friends on a reservation a couple of years ago. My son is the lead name and he added it to his MDE easily. He then invited his friends to link together on MDE so he can book the fast passes and dining reservations.

I was also concerned about whether I can book using my points if I'm not in the reservation, so I called MS and they said there would be no problem booking my son as lead. When they got there, there was no issue. He provided his ID and he was checked in. We've been going to Disney for 19yrs (since he was 2) so he's aware of how do to things.
