I;ve been reading quite a few post from experienced dvc members and I'm
rethinking my purchase. I still want to buy but am thinking maybe some of the points should be in a newer resort ssr or akv . can I buy a small initial contract say in okw as a first time buyer and then buy through disney for akv or through resale for ssr?

Bababear, I am new as well, but I can tell you from everything I have read is that once you are in, you are in and can buy through Disney regardless of what point size your original contract is.

Wish we could already be looking to add more points!

I think the next couple years are going to drive me knuts unless we win the lotto somewhere in between.

Or we could win the YOAMD dream of DVC ownership as well!!

If you are buying from disney the min points you can buy is 150 soon to go up to 160. I can't remember the exact date on that. You would have to buy a resale then onces your in the system you can add on smaller amounts of points. 25 point contract being the smallest.

You can purchase at any of the resorts directly through Disney, although there may or may not be a waitlist. Once you are in the system, you can add on as little as 25 points paying cash or 75 points w/financing.

Be sure to check the resale contracts - many of the onces I looked through yesterday are partially or totally stripped of points, which means you would buy the contract now, and pay for it, but not get any points you could use until the contract's 2008 UY starts - which could be as late as next December.

If you purchase through Disney, you can get immediate use of your points - you can acually travel on points before your paperwork even closes.

I'm a solo once a year traveler --the most points I'm really looking for would be 75 -100-maybe after I get the three sons through university and college --I'd think of more.I really don't want to pay mf on anything higher than 100 points and this is why I'm looking resale instead of Disney direct. But I was thinking of buying 25 P in resale and then 50 P through Disney.Does that make sense?

If you want a difficult to get resort or unit type, buy there. If you just want to be a member and try all the resorts, I'd buy AKV or the cheapest on site resale I could find. As noted, you can buy in then add on at other resorts if you want. If you want a chunk of points, I'd definitely look at more than one home resort, preferably ones that meet your high demand needs. For me personally, if I was looking new I'd look at AKV alone for 200 or less points, for many more I'd look at more than one home resort. It should be easy to rent out, the cost is not enough higher to make a difference, it gives you access to quite a few high demand options and has the longest expiration of any resort.

It may be a long wait to get a 25 point contract in resale and you may pay a premium price for it. If you only want 75-100, perhaps you should contact the Timeshare Store, and request that they look for a good small contract in that range as opposed to just 25 points. Or at least up to 50 points.

Hmmm I think your right ,,

I was sold on old key west two days ago--still love it but my sister got me thinking about the expiry date and wouldn't it be nice to leave it to darling grand-daughter:lovestruc a little something.I guess no matter where I buy as a home resort I could still visit the other ones. guess that 's part of the fun. thanks -now I've-got my :surfweb: thinking searching going again,,maybe I will take the ssr tour in march .
