Makeup/Skincare chat

I love templespa products. I first received a sample at the crown plaza hotel. Their repose night cream is very calming (fast absorbing and smells light). I love the quietude spray (part of their ‘do not disturb’ gift set) and their eye cream (windows of the soul) is super absorbent and effective. The foot cream doesn’t do much for me (similar to H2O foot cream). They run specials during the holidays.

Through all our hotel stays the best smelling product I came across was Atelier cologne Pomélo Paradis at Four Seasons. They’ve discontinued US deliveries. Nice clean citrus fresh.

Lancôme is my go to for face care and pressed powders.

My mom has been a user of Estee Lauder makeup for a long time and she likes getting the free gifts that Estee Lauder offers from Macy's when they have special promotions during the holidays and I like the little handbags that the gifts come in. My mom used to like Victoria's Secret's fragrances and me and Mom used to buy a whole bunch of Victoria's Secret body creams and fragrances just so we could get the free tote bags every Black Friday. And Victoria's Secret had the best fragrances like they had one called Honeysuckle Belle and Enchanted Apple and they actually smelled pretty but we quit buying them because Victoria's Secret went downhill in their beauty products. In skincare products my mother was a fan of Oil Of Olay and she would buy bottles of it every time we would go to the drug store and it was great. Do you also remember Night Of Olay cream too?

I'm a big skincare fan. I get facials regularly, and my esthetician says my skin is great!

Products I use:

Morning:
Cerave Hydrating Facial Cleanser - inexpensive and awesome
PCA Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum (from Dermstore)
PCA Rebalance Moisturizer (from Dermstore)
Dior Dreamskin SPF 50

Evening:
Cerave (same as AM)
PCA Hyaluronic (same as AM)
Elemis Pro-Collagen Overnight Matrix (often available a a steep discount on GMA Steals and Deals - I stock up when they have it at 50% off)
Young Living Frankincense essential oil (a few drops on my fingers and pat on the face)

Dermstore is a great place to get skincare. They have a rewards program and discounts, so it make it more affordable. GMA Steals and Deals often have nice skincare stuff on sale too.

I tried Oil of Olay a couple years ago, but it burned my skinned terribly, however my skin was so sensitive at the time. My parents still use it!

Love cerave! I switch between the SA cleanser and the foaming one. I also used their pm moisturizer for years.

I have been considering some Elemis products lately - but right now I am using the Tatcha Dewy skin cream which is amazing!

Also love sol de janeiro products for body…. I use the bum bum cream and it smells amazing all day

One of my favorite makeup products is the NARS afterglow lip shine gloss - so lightweight and pretty

I rarely use skincare products. My makeup is a combination of Lancome, Mac, Estee Lauder & Clinique. I occasionally switch up brands for everything but foundation. I only use Lancome foundation. I alternate between Chanel #5 & Allure by Chanel perfume.

I also rarely use products because I have incredibly sensitive skin and very dry. I've tried just about everything and much of it listed here. I use:
Dove Sensitive Skin Bar
Vaseline (face)
Cera-Ve (blue tub) body.

Makeup:
Dermablend Liquid Foundation or Mineral Powder Makeup. My liquid foundation cannot have chemical sunscreen in it so I'm very limited. Mineral sunscreen is no issue.

Born this Way Concealer or NARS concealer.

Urban Decay eye shadows and blush.

Lancome Kohl eyeliner.

I've been on a Korean beauty skin care kick. It's been amazing!!! The routine is long but it is worth it.

I also started wearing the Thrive tubing mascara and cannot get over how awesome it is.

I am in my late 70s and have very few wrinkles on my face. I have used a moisturizer faithfully since I began in high school. I've used everything from the most expensive to the cheapest. I use two moisturizers, depending on how my skin is feeling -- one made by Southwest Sunshine and Olay Ultimate if I feel like I need something a big richer.
I wear Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Foundation and Shiseido Innerglow Cheekpowder. I highly recommend both for aging skin.
My signature fragrances are Shalimar and Champs Elysees, by Guerlain.

I'll be the outlier here... 50 years old. Used Oil of Olay moisturizer daily from a teenager till a few years ago. Now I use l'oreal moisturizer w/ spf. Brace yourselves: I don't wash my face with anything. I run a wet washcloth over my face daily, and apply the moisturizer after I shower, and that's it.
There was a time when I was younger that I wore makeup, but I don't wear it now because I'm lazy. I forget I have it on and instant racoon eyes in the AM. Plus I've never been completely physically comfortable in it as it (in general, and I've tried all types of brands over the years) irritates my skin.
I actually have weird, dry skin and I've not used any soap (deliberately) on my face regularly for several years now. Came to that point after a conversation w/ my dermatologist and several years of trying this and that. Now it's a lot happier and healthier.
I do use a exfoliator every once in a while when I think about it. Probably about 4 times per year give or take.

I am 48, and here’s my routine that doesn’t include treatments at the medi spa:
Cerave face wash followed by Skinmedica TNS Advanced Plus serum in the morning.
At night, face wash and Tretinoin.
For makeup, I use Olay Total Effects 7 in One CC Cream. If I need more coverage over that, I’ll add GloMinerals.
The real secrets to beautiful skin come from the medi spa. 😏

I only wear makeup for work and special events

Some of my favorite products:

-elf power grip primer
-huda beauty faux filter foundation
-huda beauty color corrector
-rare beauty liquid blush
-makeup revolution cream bronzer
-makeup revolution highlighter
-urban decay setting spray
-nars lip gloss

I also use garnier Micellar water to remove makeup before washing my face.

On my days off, I give my skin a breather!

Have you ever heard of an outlet store chain called The Cosmetics Company Store? It is an outlet store chain where you could find deals on Estee Lauder Lancome and Clarins products and it is like Ulta Beauty and my mother and I used to visit The Cosmetics Company Store and Mom would buy her Estee Lauder makeup on clearance a lot. Another brand that my mother likes for skincare products is a brand called Body Fantasies and they have creams fragrances and makeup and they usually put Christmas gift sets out and my dad and I always get my mom Body Fantasies products for Christmas and she loves them. My aunt used to use Victoria Principal's skincare products and she would have two whole boxes of them because she would buy a new product Victoria Principal would release and the line was called The Principal Secret. Did you ever see it and try it?

I also do a liver detox (core restore) once a year. It helps with skin issues-more clearer skin. Tree Activ is good for acne, absorbs easily, immediately reduced redness

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01BPDN5L6?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Be careful with collagen supplements if you have depression, anxiety, seasonal effective disorder or low Vit d. It blocks tryptophan receptors and lowers seratonin. I had a sinking heart feeling while on them and had to stop (immediately felt better).

reaching 50, but still have acne here and there. Because of acne I have been using Retin-A for the past 30 years or so. Any boy can I tell, this stuff is the best for wrinkles.

cleansing I love Shiseido.. They have changed the line, the best foaming cleanser was Benefance line, though the new line is also a great foamer.
Moisterizers I go from cheap to expense no specific brand. I have the last ten years also put Argan oil over the retin A and that combo works great at night

foundation is clinique

Thanks for the info. I've been using collagen powder for about 3 months. So far, I haven't had any problems, but it's good to know to watch out for potential side effects.

From what I’ve read the supplements are ok if you don’t have any of the conditions that already cause low serotonin.

Does anyone have suggestions for face cream for very dry skin? My face (and skin I’d take a recommendation there too) hurt in the winter they get so dry. I’ve tried a bunch of products but find the thick creams that are probably what I need do not absorb well and the thinner products don’t seem to provide enough moisture.

I swear by Clinique's moisture surge. It's made a world of difference for me.

I use ceravu therapeutic hand cream and neutrogena Norwegian formula (doesn’t absorb as fast, Vaseline like but good for cracking skin). Vaseline extremely dry skin rescue hand and body lotion is good. Wash dishes with cold/warm weather vs hot. For cracked heels use miracle heel stick (I keep one for using on knuckles during winter). I use Aveeno baby excema lotion multiple times a day. My dry skin is most likely caused by subtle wheat allergies as well.

Face: less is more. Use cetaphil gentle cleansing soap once or twice a day (less soap is better) and at night maybe use Lancôme renergie night cream. I use occasionally because the fragrance can be a bit too much at times. I mostly use the Repose cream by temple spa.

Most likely dry skin is caused by dehydration. I was always dehydrated despite drinking lots of water. A body fat analysis also showed dehydration despite drinking more than what was recommended before the test. If you exercise and you’re sweating a lot you need liquid Iv (Costco has them and I like the one with Vit c; it has 11 gms of sugar but I only use during HIIT; the sugar feee ones gave me a throbbing dehydration headache and I had to eat a lot of watermelon to make it stop. Ancient minerals Magnesium lotion+pedialyte weren’t as effective. Muscle cramps disappeared with liquid Iv.

Purified Omega7 helps with dry skin as well.
