Makeup Kit

Just want to give a heads up that all Mary Kay powder cosmetics are now mineral based. You can go to marykay.com to find a consultant in your area. She will come to you, teach your daughter about skin care (way more important than make up), teach your DD how to apply make up herself so she can get that lok again and work with you both to select appropriate colors (both for her skin tone and age). All Mary Kay products are high quality for reasonable prices.

Maybe you could look into filling a compact for her, like with 3 different eye colors, a blush and a lip gloss or pale lip stick. They also come with small brushes that fit into the compact. I personally perfer to use full size brushes and use the small brushes when on the go.

HTH!

Thank you. Maybe my dd will listen to someone else. At this age my dd views me as totally clueless .

We had a Mary Kay party for DD and about 5 of her friends. Fortunately, one of their mom's is a MK consultant. She taught the girls about skin care and how to apply make up without it looking trashy...they all looked so good and had a great time. The mom's dropped them off and went out for coffee and they had a ball. She has been use the minerals by MK since and at the younger teenage years, they waste a lot of it. I find mineral powder all over the sink every am so I'm sure she is wasting half of it.

Mary Kay kills me. I am totally allergic to it. I have tried over and over again, and tired different things that they have, it is the one line that I can't use. Whatever anyone decides to use, I would never buy a full line of anything.

Not sure if you are debating foundation or not. But may I suggest, if she has noticable acne (the red bumpy kind) definitely get her foundation. If she's lucky enough to have clear skin or light acne (bumps, no redness) skip it. That's what seems to affect the self esteem the most concerning make-up.

Mark by Avon is a great line ... very budget friendly. :)

Bare minerals or MAC. i know it is expensive but teenage age skin need to be pampered or it will break out. my 13 year old wears (very little) mac and bare minerals and i only wear bare minerals. take her to the make-up counter and they will show her how to put it on. it doesn't look heavy. it more evens things out.i think the quality of the make-up out weights the cost with this. think of her skin!! plus if you buy the good stuff it seems to last longer most especially if you let them teach her how to apply it. good luck. it was very hard for me to let my DD start wearing make-up. She was the very last in her class by about 2 years and she was 12.in the end i had to let her as she was using other peoples eye make-up at school and forgetting to take it off. i was worried she was going to get an eye infection from someone. good luck with whatever you choose!!

I was thirteen when my mother bought me my first things of makeup. I love the stuff she got me. I still by similar tones. She bought me natural colors... light pink blush, brown mascara, almost sheer lip gloss and natural brown tone kit of eyeshadow... everything was cover girl and the gloss was the smackers.

The nice thing was that even if I put too much on the colors looked very natural. She also bought me a how to make up book from Barnes and Nobles and we read it together.

The book had tips on how to work with your natural beauty and that make up was an enhancer not cover up. Have fun with this. I bonded with my mom and to this day I love to raid her make up stash. :lovestruc

Good Luck!

If you are worried about the mess that Bare Minerals might make, try Pur Minerals. This comes in a pressed powder form which doesn't tend to be as messy. I actually prefer it to Bare Minerals for this reason.

I am currently using Smashbox Halo and love it, but it is pricey. I got it in a kit with the concealer and primer which is the best primer I have ever used.

DD13 wears eyeshadow, eyeliner and lip gloss, mostly for choir performances. We use the Physicians Formula eye kits matched to her eye color. The plum eye liner is very subtle and with her naturally long, dark lashes it looks beautiful. She doesn't use foundation yet, just concealer on the occasional pimple. When she gets to foundation, she will use the bare minerals too.

DD11 really wants to wear makeup now that she is in middle school too.:headache: DD13 just did not care in 6th grade, heck she barely cares now. BUT, I will choose my battles carefully with his one. So, DD11 has been using a tan eye shadow of mine (Physicians Formula) and my mascara (brown CG, still love this stuff). She doesn't have the long dark lashes like her sister. She will be getting her own for Christmas and I will be adding to DD13's small collection.

I think the most important part of makeup is learning how to properly take care of their skin. Less expensive cosmetics can usually be tolerated if they wash them off before bed and properly moisturize unless there are sensitivity issues.

I got started out on Cover Girl and am still using it. I would say make sure you get the oil-free or sensitive skin/hypoallergenic so she doesn't chance having a bad reaction to it.

Cover Girl has some nice kits of eyeshadow that have a few different shades so she can experiment and see what she likes best. Besides, they sell it at Dollar General for a good budget price.

Well, I'm 50+ and have worn makeup for a very long time.

Funny story, I started wearing makeup on the sly at 12/13 years old. I'm the youngest of 5 and would put on mascara and a little lipstick. Imitation
is the sincerest form of flattery...:cutie:

One day, I didn't put any make-up on and my mother stared and me and
asked me what was wrong "You look too pale". I told her the truth about
the make-up and she told me "put it on"...guess that's how I got permission. :confused3:lmao:

Thanks for posting this thread! I don't have a teenage daughter, but I haven't worn make-up in over 10 years and I'd like to get something for special occasions. So much has changed that I had no idea where to start. I'm going to check out Bare Minerals. Sounds like a great product.
