Makeup / glamor party?

My almost 14yo wants to do some kind of make up party for her birthday. She was thinking about going to the makeup counters at the department stores for make overs - there will be maybe 9 girls.

I wondered if anyone has done something like this? Any ideas on costs?

Another option I've thought of is do a Glamor shots type place, they'd love to get made up and pics made also. Not sure again about cost. Anyplace besides Glamor shots I should check out?

You might be able to get some Mary Kay consultants to come over and do them up. There are sometimes some cheaper places in the mall geared towards kids that take their pictures and they can get a bunch of wallets printed up pretty cheap. The place around here has cool backgrounds with computer designs and stuff. All the kids carry the pics around in their binders...Don't forget hair salons can do just a wash and style without a cut for pretty cheap, too...Hope she has fun!

That sounds like fun. I've never done anything like that, but I think that having 9 girls at the mall might be too much. I would try to see if there's a place that will come to your house to do it. Then maybe you could take them out to dinner afterward to show off their glamourness.

I googled the directory at our mall, it is called Zoom In Zoom Out. The number is (972) 279-8905 in case you want to call and see if they are a chain or not.
I remember the JCPenney's at our mall had a hair place that also did nails and they had two longs rows of seats. Maybe some places like that does makeup, too? Not sure, but it might be worth checking into.

What age do girls STOP having birthday parties? That's not intended as an insult, just a question as I have a soon-to-be 11 year-old who's being wishy-washy about having a party. I've told her that she doesn't HAVE to have a party. I honestly don't think girls in her class have parties anymore for fun or excitement, but because 'someone else had a party.' I'm actually trying to talk DD out of a party at a place, and have suggested a slumber party. (Or am I asking for a bigger headache. )

Other than that, I don't have an answer about party ideas for 14 year-olds, as I haven't been there yet. I'm eager to see what others suggest.

Try approaching a local salon and see if they would host a party for the girls. Maybe they can do something like choose two treatments: hair style, makeup or manicure.

I know of a couple of places that do things like this all the time. Some salon owners are very creative and do themes.

Do you have a local Mall that has a Club Libby Lu??? I've seen young girls and teen girls attend parties there. They also have a web site. They do hair makeup etc etc...

Yep! There's a Club Libby Lu at Vista Ridge and one at Stonebriar- that sounds like the PERFECT thing! They do makeup/makeovers and have a dance party thing.

There's also a teen salon of some kind on the tollway just north of Parker... I'll have to see if I remember the name.

We have yet to figure out when the parties stop. I'll probably be inviting all their friends over for cake & gifts when they are 25!

when i was like 11-16 i would just have sleepovers or just take friends out to dinner..next month, ill be 21 and my parents are still taking some friends of mine out to dinner with us

We did makeovers for the girls when DD turned 12 at the local beauty college. They all came in party dresses and got an updo, makeup and fingernails done for $10 each. At the end of the party, they did a fashion show.

I thought it was a bargain. We tipped each one of the girls who worked there in addition to the cost. After it was over, we went back home and had a very girly tea party.

We did makeovers for the girls when DD turned 12 at the local beauty college.

We did a "mini-makeover" at an Olga's Beauty School. They did their hair in updos, painted their nails, and put on "a little" makeup. Some girls even had a little glitter. They all enjoyed being pampered (who doesn't!). I took a close up pic of their head & shoulders...and later when we had them developed, my daughter and I cut the heads out, glued them to cut-outs of some red carpet celebs, laminated them and put magnets on the back. Those were her thank you cards (written on the back before laminated). It has been several years, and one of her friends still has the magnet on the fridge.

Oh, believe me, I LOVE parties at our house with lots of food and cake. It's just stressful buying presents for so many parties. And DD agonizes over what to buy, how much to spend 'I don't know if she likes Bratz dolls,' etc. I, for one, would be happy at this point to have parties, but 'no gifts please. Just come have a great time at DD's party.' Half of the presents DD receives are almost forgotten six mos. later. I'm showing my age, but I didn't have parties once I entered the tween years (unless they were slumber parties.) I'd have on e good friend attend Six Flags with me, then parents would take us to a nice restaurant. I know it's different now though. I just wonder how much they appreciate it.

We don't do one every year, her group of friends seems to be more into parties now than they were a few years ago. They have parties "just because" now.

Libby Lu is for 3yo's (at least that's what she said so I think it's out. I'll check out the seventeen place though, but I'm only showing it to her if I think I can stretch my $$ that far

One of her friend's mom has a nail salon and I'm sure she'd do nails & toes at a bargain. She's done my DD's nails a couple of times and her friends love the way they look.

I had one but it was done with an Avon consultant at our house.

I would just start calling places - call the makeup counters at your local mall to get pricing, call Glamour Shots or someplace like that, your salon, beauty schools, etc and see what they can offer you.

If that doesn't work, you could have a consultant or two come to your house and then take them out for a night on the town.

Made a few phone calls, glamour shots is out at least for their party package. It's $100 per child and that isn't in the pudget. They would love it though.

The Seventeen place is also too much for what you get.

My house is not an option right now, too many projects going on to have people over.

I'll explore some options and see if I can come up with something fun. I'd love to be able to work in the photos as this is their last year in middle school and it they are wanting to do a group page for the yearbook.

When my niece was 13 we did a make up party. If you know a Mary Kay consultant or Avon rep she'll probably lead the thing for free just for fun. We went to the Dollar Store and bought a bunch of cheap makeup and the girls all got a make up bag full of goodies (be sure it's ok with their parents first though, we did run into this issue after the fact). They sat around while the consultant showed them how to apply it and then did each other's hair and nails. It was a great time and much cheaper than one of those spa birthday places. Another great alternative is the beauty school idea. I'd imagine not terribly expensive either.

You can go to the Department store and schedule "makeover's" at the clinique station and I am sure other makeup booths too.

I do not wear very much makeup so I scheduled a time for my sister, my mom and I and they did our makeup for all of us right there at the counter in Dillards, best of all it was free and they were very nice.
