I absolutely HATE to Iron! I fell in love with the Downy Wrinkle releaser, however, it is quite expensive. Has anyone found an alternative to this? Or better yet, has anyone ever been able to make your own?

Dollar General and Family Dollar both have a store brand of Wrinkle Releaser. They only cost about $2.50 a bottle. We go through bottles of this stuff! But I also will make some by adding 1 tablespoon of liquid fabric softener to a quart of water. Be sure and shake well before each use. Works for me!

I make my own all the time. Take an empty plastic spray bottle put 1 dryer sheet inside and fill with water. If you don't have a dryer sheet you can also use a taplespoon or two of fabric softener instead. It works every bit as well as the stuff you buy.

Thank you! I can't imagine the amount of $$ I have spent on this stuff! I detest ironing.

We make our own all the time. We use a quart size spray bottle and add a few ounces of a cheap liquid softner, and a little bit of alcohol. Shake and it works as good or better than the expensive stuff. We each have our own bottle.;)

My mom bought me a clothes steamer for Christmas last year. I  it!

Info please! What kind is it? Is it small enough to travel with? How long does it take to get the wrinkles out? :listen:

I know nothing about steamers other then watching commercials.

I make my own, too, but have never added alcohol. What's the alcohol for?

It helps it to dry faster. We started out not adding it but saw a new recipe that included it and switched to it. Really makes it quicker as we often spray and put the item right on!

This is the one I have. I keep it set up in my laundry room, and use it almost every day. My kids (9 & 10) use it, too.

We brought it on vacation with us - by car to a resort where we were staying for a week. It is not portable enough to put in a suitcase.

It takes very little time to get the wrinkles out. I find that it works better if I hang the garment up and pull it down while I run the steamer over the clothes. It also takes only a minute or two to heat up enough to use. Don't leave it on for a long time because it can really steam up a room.

Please share what you got. I love to iron :rolleyes1 and actually iron my kids clothes everyday before school. My friends actually make fun of me but I can't help it, lol. I would love to try something new like a steamer.
Thanks!

ETA - I see we posted at the same time. Thanks! I am going to check it out.

My MiL bought me a steamer a few years ago. I LOVE it!!!
Mine is a full size Conair professional steamer. That thing has transformed my life!

Have you used it on silky blouses?

I've used a professional steamer on silk. It doesn't work too well. Yes, the wrinkles are gone, but it doesn't have that nice smooth quality you get from ironing with a pressing cloth and steam. Also, the steamer makes the silk kind of limp.

There really is something about pressing silk that makes it shinier, have nice body while draping, yet retains it's softness.

What is your recipe?

I do not really measure anything. A couple ounces of softer and maybe an ounce of alcohol for a quart size bottle. I just do not remember the exact amounts as we have been doing this for years. Never harmed a piece of clothing.

LOL! You sound like me! My grown kids will ask me how much to put in a recipe and I just tell them "until it looks good".

Thanks!
