Make Your Own Luck - March 2025 W.I.S.H. Thread

Last night I was watching the Resort TV1 stream from the first day of Flower and Garden and was so thankful to know that I would be seeing and experiencing everything they were showing.

I am also thankful for the longer days (our sunset time is now 6:03p) and that the sun has been out during the days and that I can see it... all day long. Soon there will be plenty of post-work walking time and I need to get going with my pre-trip walking training.

I have had a bit of a rough week. I have a lot of pain in my low right side of my abdomen since I woke up on Wednesday. I talked to the doctor yesterday and they sent me for an ultrasound. I don't the official results but the tech did say it didn't look like I had any cysts but couldn't fully rule out the appendix. They can only confirm if the appendix is inflamed. So since she couldn't find mine (most likely not inflamed) but she can't completely rule out appendicitis. I don't think that is it as I haven't gotten much worse yet an I think by know I would be sick and in much more pain. I am just waiting to hear back from my doctor now. This weekend I am just going to take it easy.

Yesterday was a really tough day at work... there was a "restructure" and people were laid off. The Sr Director in my area was one of the people let go and my org is now split into three parts and aligned with Engineering. She was a great leader and made a huge contribution to the company, but the decisions were made based on headcount numbers, not quality. There's a lot of anger - yet again - and there's going to be a lot of disruption in the coming weeks.

As far as the weekend goes, tomorrow afternoon I get the oil changed on the car, which is done for free at the dealership which is now about 15 minutes closer. As the crow flies the dealership is probably only 15 minutes away, but there isn't a bridge off the island in that direction. I ordered a new credenza/buffet type piece of furniture for the dining room which should arrive today, so putting it together will be a weekend project. And the curtain rods I ordered came yesterday, so I'll get them put up... I'm hoping having the drapes up will help to make this feel more like home. And I definitely need some outside time, even tho I think the forecast is pretty damp.

Happy Weekend!!!

Well I and my entire office made it through another week of work. Not without issues of course, but no news of RIFs for our organization, Glory to God for that.

Whoooohooooo DH and I planned a cruise for this fall to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary!!!!! We have never been on one, so only doing 3 nights and 1 night at the port before but we are so excited!!

Thankful to still be employed and in a much calmer state of mind. This week was good for me mentally and I pray I stay on the same track.

This weekend is full for me! Babysat my niece yesterday and since it’s her birthday weekend I took her to lunch and to the trampoline park, she had a blast. My granddaughter came in the afternoon for our first slumber party!!!! It went so well so looking forward to lots of those in our future!!

My granddaughter stayed until before lunch then got picked up and I need to do laundry and clean.

Tomorrow is my coffee bar day at church and hopefully DH and I go out to lunch after!!

For the first 20 or so years of going I always went in early Spring, when it was still damp and cold at home and I needed a shot of warmth and sunshine. And I would always start at EPCOT with Spaceship Earth. Then one year I got an annual pass because I knew in the Spring that I’d be coming back during the holidays, but I ended up doing four trips because you know, Disney math the extra trips were free, so I was there during each season.

I think I still prefer Spring. I have mixed feelings about going during the holidays because my body says “nope, it is supposed to be dark and cold”, but I also enjoy having been there with the extra celebrations.

I have only been once outside of the summer time. While I did enjoy the lower crowds and lack of 100% humidity it was a pain to pack. One day was 90 and the next we ended up having to buy sweatshirts to watch the evening parade!
Even though the heat and humidity is rough I prefer the consistency of August!

Most of my trips have been in May and February. I think the February ones do me the most good, as they provide the sunshine boost to get me through the rest of winter.

For Self-Care Sunday today, the assignment is to be aware of what your body needs!

The time change can mess with our sleep routines, energy levels, hunger cues, etc. So give yourself some grace (and some deep breaths if people around you are cranky. )

I started the morning watching the Mammoth Club review of Flower and Garden food and omg… happy tummy just thinking about it. I always stay at POP and my regular routine is to take the Skyliner to Epcot each evening and this trip that’ll include getting dinner at a booth.

I’m also finally getting a pedicure today. Not at a super fancy place but I’ve still got the remnants of my Christmas pedi, so feet are looking very sad.

Other than that my body really wants the curtains put up so I’ll tackle that when I get home. And at least start building the buffet. Hanging curtain rods and building flat pack furniture are not my favorite things to do but I’ll be glad when they are done.

We’ve gone mostly in the July or August because I’m off in the summer. I loved it at Christmastime. February was okay but we don’t get a week off in February anymore. Disneyland in April was surprisingly cool. Temperatures didn’t go above 72 degrees. Summer is so hot, but we usually go to the parks in the morning and relax at the pool in the afternoon, so July is probably my favorite time.

DD got a flat tire on Friday night, and the AAA guy wasn’t able to get the lug nuts off her tire, so DH and I drove to her location. 60 minutes later, we had the car towed to the house. So Saturday morning, we had to get her car towed to the tire shop. It was a whole thing.

I had a wake on Saturday for my friend’s father. It was very sad.

Today I walked on the treadmill. I did some cleaning and switched out most of my winter clothes for spring clothes. A pair of jeans that were too tight for several months finally fit again. It’s nice to be making progress.

Favorite time to go to Disney is anytime lol! I love Christmas time, Fall time, spring…but I will say summer is a little too humid for my liking…now the one and only summer we went you had to wear masks 100% of the time which was just unpleasant so maybe we need to try again!

DH and I took a 3 mile walk today which was amazing self care!!

Posting early so that I don’t get side tracked in the morning with work!!

What’s your goals and motivation this Monday?

I am feeling so good about meeting/exceeding my 10K steps for 7 days in a row now I am definitely motivated to keep moving on my walking pad and hopefully walk with DH after work now that it’s not pitch black and 15 degrees by the time he gets home!!

Have a great Monday everyone!!

Social Saturday question - what is your favorite time of year to go to Disney and why?
We typically go the week of Labor Day. The weekend is busy but by Monday/Tuesday the parks are empty. And bonus the kids only missed 4 days of school at a time they were too far into work. I have gone twice over spring break. Our very first trip was the last week of March. There were just too many people (and I was clueless on what I was doing). Our last trip as the week of Easter and it didn't seem so crowded but I know it was. I think this was because I new more. We went the first week of June once and it wasn't bad but you can tell the crowds were picking up for the summer.

I was listening to my body a lot this weekend. The pain in my stomach hasn't gone away and I ended up in the ER yesterday. The doc said I was boring. All lab and scans came back completely normal. So I still do have answers for the pain but I at least know it is nothing too serious. I had it in my head that it was appendicitis. The Doc thought so too but it wasn't.
What’s your goals and motivation this Monday?
My motivation is to just get a walk in each day. We are supposed to to have really nice weather this week. So I guess the motivation this week is more the nice weather.
