make-up in carry on

I haven't flown since 2007, so please forgive my ignorance! I totally get the liquids in 3 oz or smaller containers in the quart sized zip lock bag. But I was wondering specifically about liquid foundation, tube concealer and mascara. And toothpaste? Do these need to also go in the quart sized bag being handed to TSA agent, or can they go into my cosmetic bag in my carry on? Also, what about prescription creams? Must they also go into TSA quart sized bag? We are going to be packing one check-thru bag for the 3 of us, but that bag may be already pretty full and I have room in my carry-on. Thanks!!

I did put my tooth paste in that bag, but not my make up. I probaby would put liquid foundation in that same bag, but powdered things and mascara were Ok for my trip last year.

i always fly SW. i keep my makeup in my small makeup bag I carry: cover girl liquid makeup, mascara, compact, eyeliner, blush and brush. but when i fly i put in in a small zip lock baggie and then into the makeup bag. i just do it in case something gets smushed and something breaks.
but i've never been asked to have it removed, etc.

the other liquids like toothpaste, hairspray and an emergency shampoo and conditioner in the quart bag.

the only time i was stopped was for my chi hot iron. they thought it was a weapon and had to go through my bag.

Per tsa rules: all liquids, jels & aerosols are included, except medications. So I would think prescription creams would be exempt. And remember the rule is 1 bag per traveler. So if you need more than 1 bag, store them in your carry on, but have the other 2 people take a bag each thru security. Return all the bags to your carry on after going thru security. Wanted to add that in the photo in the link I provided, you can see toothpast clearly in the bag. So that is a definate.

Mascara and toothpaste go in Baggie. Unless your foundation and concealer are powder or solid in the Baggie.

Really it is not that hard. If it is liquid the rules apply. So if you broke the container would stuff run or ooze out? If yes, put it in the Baggie

I hate measuring and putting stuff in smaller containers so I put my make-up and hair products in my checked bag no matter what. Even if it means putting my underwear and socks in my carry-on to make room for it. Clohes will go through TSA security with no problems and I don't have to fuss with pulling anything out of the bag.

But I am one who would lose her mind if TSA nabbed my make-up or hair products. It would completely ruin my trip and I'd either spend the entire first day looking to replace the items, or refuse to leave the hotel room all week. So for me, it's better safe than sorry. TSA is welcome to take my unmentionables but not my mascara!!!

The TSA agents screening your bag were incompetent. The mascara, liquid makeup, and eyeliner all should be in your 311 bag. So should the blush if it is liquid blush. The airline you fly has nothing to do with TSA rules.

Pour
Spread
Smear
Splash
Spray
Drip
Drink

In other words, if the item needs to be in a container to keep its shape, it's a liquid.

Your responses are all so helpful! Thank you!! I'll put the most important of the liquids in the 3-1-1 bag and keep with me to hand to TSA. Whatever doesn't fit, I'll simply put in the check-in bag. I'll make it fit!! Not worth the stress of dealing with security issues. My frequent flyer husband would have my head if I held up the line!! Thanks again!

Very important: your liquid (etc.) medication goes in a separate closeable (for spills) any size plastic bag with no limit on the per- bottle size.

It's simple to just put it in my checked bag and then I fly through security like a breeze. Even my laptop goes through without coming out of the bag. I can get myself and 3 kids through TSA faster than most people take putting on their shoes. It isn't worth it to me to have to mess with stuff like this.

Sorry, I was not criticizing you. These items should have been caught by TSA. They do belong in your 311 bag; you might as well start putting them there, because eventually someone competent will catch this.

My hubby has a large container of prescription cream for a skin condition. On one trip, he took it in his carry-on and bc it was so large, he did get pulled aside while the TSA agent "screened" it. He got the okay to fly with it, but it did hold him up a bit. Same thing happened on the way back.

Me too (re: scaring children)!!!! And I'd cry if a CM asked me to leave because I was making so many children cry at the happiest place on Earth.

My really big problem items are hair products (aerosol hair spray, a gallon of conditioner for my unruly wild hair...). And I rarely leave home without a jar of coconut oil...I am high maintenance and I won't deny it!
