Make reservation with intent to rent?

There are a lot of ways to make money in this world. I hope this is not a route I ever have to take.
But if someone needs to do that to pick up a few hundred bucks extra a year then so be it.

Personally I wouldn't do it.I've rented to people when I knew we weren't using our points, even gave some away when some people needed a few.But I've
never made a reservation without the intent to use myself.

Buying points to rent is speculative.
Assuming there's an audience for points at the price you want to went is speculative.

The only difference is the feeling that "I can't get what I want so it's a renters fault." Of course not really different then if the renter contacted the owner 12 months in advance and arranged the rental. Either way the room is gone and to a renter. If you think renting is allowed there's no real diference as Dean points out.

Renting is allowed. Commercial use is prohibited. I'd argue that speculative reservations are commercial use.

Since renting is contractual I don't see any way to successfully make that argument unless there is sufficient volume to meet the criteria DVC has already put forth which are reasonable IMO. Just like the price charged or demand of the underlying option aren't reasonable criteria.

From someone who has now spent over 20k in the last 12 months renting points, here is my prospective. I use the main rental brokers, twice now I have been told my dates are unavail (pres week at aulani & FW in October. Never did i think, I'll go look for a listing for those times, I simple changed my plans. Unless it was a huge family deal and I needed a GV and their were other reasons to negate the premium, I just would not pay more to get that time. For example, we are going to Aulani i April instead and went with another broker who was able to secure our VGF for October. I'll try another route, but I refuse to pay more than $16pp

I have never rented my points out (I never have enough!). I have wondered about it. Could you rent over key areas July 4, Food & Wine, NYE, Xmas etc. Even if you could do it, for a significantly higher price, not sure its is worth the effort vs. how much extra will be profited. That's also assuming it rents as I reserved.
