Just got the email tonight that broke our hearts. Our daughters make a wish cruise was postponed last December but tonight they told us they don't expect cruises to be allowed by make a wish for at least 2 years. She will turn 18 later in 2022 and become ineligible for a wish following her bday. They aren't even allowing domestic travel(Canada) this year. All she cared about was going on a Disney cruise. She is special needs so she doesn't care about tech that she can't operate, celebrities, etc. Funny enough the closest to a celebrity she has wanted to meet was Molly, Tim tracker, Mr. Morrow and a couple of the dis team because she watches disney vloggers all the time. I have thought to ask if we pay to fly to Florida, Anaheim, etc whether they can do anything then.... but I know the answer almost certainly no. Sorry everyone, I just needed to get out my sadness and didn't want to burden my wife, kids etc with it.

UPDATE: see post at the end of this thread.

I am so sorry to hear that. You have every right to feel sad about it for a while. No apologies needed.

I am so very sorry. Our daughter's Make A Wish was a Disney Cruise. Her actual wish was denied, so I understand how devastating this feels for your daughter, and how it affects your family. I hope that your daughter can come up with an alternate wish that brings her joy. I know a wish granter, and have seen that many of her wish kids have opted to have room make overs. Her chapter has done everything they can to make their wish kids' wishes extra special since they haven't been able to grant travel wishes, and the rooms have been amazing.

That totally sucks :(
I would reach out and see if you handle the travel yourself, they can arrange the Disney part. Prepare for a no, then it can only go up from there.

Please do share your feelings with your wife, she is going through the same emotions. Don't bottle it up, do it together. 🍀

Please check with your MAW office on this. Years ago I was a wish granter. At the time if the child was between 2-18 at the time the wish was made then they got still go on the trip. If I remember correctly I had a teen that was 19 when her wish was granted because they began the process before she turned 19. It really depends on the chapters regulations. MAW has national guidelines and then each chapter may have additional regulations. Example when I was a wish granter none of the chapters allowed hunting wishes. That came down from the nation organization. I'm going to pm you another wish granting foundation that has a bit more flexibility with criteria. They were able to grant a wish of a child when MAW wouldn't let the child go on her trip to Disney because her bio dad (dad had no legal rights and didn't visit child while sick) refused to sign the paperwork if he couldn't come on the wish. MAW had told child wish was being granted and they were packing for the trip when they told the family they wouldn't be able to go since dad refused to sign paperwork.

I'm so sorry! As PP mentions, I do suggest you check into whether they can "hold" that wish for 2 years with some preliminary planning.

Could you possibly Wish for a trip to Florida with WDW and then take her on the cruise yourself? I know the cruise part would be out of pocket but there are some deals as people are not flocking to cruising just yet.

I’m so sorry to hear that her cruise was canceled that’s a great wish. I hope you guys can find an alternative wish that makes her happy. My husband’s cousin got a wish granted shortly before he passed away at 15 to meet Tom petty and the heartbreakers. They were amazing with him. MAW is such a wonderful organization.

So far it looks like once her 18th bday happens, that is it, she has to have it done before her bday a year from now.

As of now they aren't allowing any travel, even to other parts of Canada, so WDW would be out as well. Honestly taking a family of 6 on the cruise is cost prohibitive, it's why we had never done it before and why she asked for it as her wish.

That's why honestly we feel very blessed, as far as we know for now she doesn't have any part of the terminal side affects associated with her syndrome. We could be patient and wait. Apparently her bday will stop that patience though.

Just got back the answers to all our questions. No travel outside of Canada. No extensions. No Cruises. No Gift card Buying to pay for a cruise later on. No arranging to meet vloggers because they are outside of Canada(even if we are already there). We thought about meeting Taylor Swift(daughters name is Taylor so she loves her having the same name) but they are apparently only doing it virtually and it may only be a virtual message, not even a conversation. Only other thing she wants is a service dog, my wife doesn't want the responsibility.

So sorry. Hope she can come up with another idea. How long does she have to think about it?

Her wish expires in just under a year. It won't really be her that is thinking about it though. She isn't really capable of being able to think through things. I

I have no idea how Make a Wish works, but can you check if it's possible to arrange something with Make A Wish USA? Via the Canadian organization or directly.
These are extraordinary circumstances.

Then I hope you & your wife can think of something that will please your daughter.
Thanks we are trying. The only thing I know she really wants besides travel is a service dog but my wife doesn't want an animal to look after.

I am also saying you should check with your local MAW. Given we are in a pandemic, I would hope they would work with you on something regardless of age.

Unfortunately they have said no to that. They are separate entities, different budget, sponsors etc. I am actually thinking I may just reach out to her favorite vloggers and hope that she could meet Molly(I mention her specifically because Taylor said Molly is the celebrity she wants to hug the most, she's a hugger)at the parks for a minute or two to say hi. She would love something like that.

I’m so sorry about all this. I hope your daughter gets to have a great time.

I know this is probably a long shot, but if you can swing a trip to WDW on your own, I don't think it would hurt to reach out to AllEars.net and tell them the situation and that all your daughter wants is to give Molly a hug. She strikes me as the type of person who would be open to doing it if scheduling allows.

Worst they can say is no!

Thanks, yeah that is exactly what I was thinking. Partly waiting to hear back on our latest questions, attempts with MAW etc. If she can't/won't we will understand but it would be very special for her. We can't even ask Taylor because last time we asked her about seeing her friend in Florida she sat at the front door for 2 weeks straight (4 month before we were going) asking every minute or two(literally) can I see her now? It sounds funny, picture it for weeks on end and that is all you hear her saying, lol
