Make a long wait shorter?

Thanks :) I wasn't really trying to have a temper tantrum, it was more a sad trantrum. Once again no sob story but I really am sensitive sometimes and I was upset that nobody was agreeing with me. Yes, very immature.

But usually, I am pretty mature for my age.

Any other recommended states that could be better?

If I do construction, I'd be inclined to pick horticulture or landscaping which is semi-related. The wages are decent.

Here's a recommendation...pick something. You want to be a barber, Disney employee, doctor, McDonald's employee, real estate agent, nurse, restaurant employee, contruction/horticulture, etc., etc. Make a decision!

So, now you are going to start thread number three on this subject, huh? To what end? Why start all these threads?

The "incredibly mature" thing to do after asking for advice is to graciously accept it. Doesn't mean you have to use it (rare person on the DIS that actually uses the advice they ask for!), just don't whine and fight about it.

The construction/horticulture idea was me responding to someone's advice to go into construction. Not my individual idea.

Just a question cool beans, why do you get so upset that I like to consider different careers?

But in any case, here's the top 3:
1) Barber
2) Real estate agent
3) Pastry chef

I don't recall saying doctor btw. Those are the top 3.

Thread #3 is not about this subject. It's about finding a state. Try actually reading it before assuming.

I'm not "so upset." I'm starting to think this is kind of funny.

In your other thread, you wanted to be a Neonatologist. You were considering doctor there. Can't wait to see what comes up in the next thread!

You are confused. I NEVER said anything about Neonatologist.

It's rude to laugh at me. I'm just trying to be smart and think of careers.

And for crying out loud - THE THREADS ARE DIFFERENT so stop trying to act like I've asked the same thing 3 times. If you don't like it, don't say anything in the threads. It's just detracting, you're not helping. I'm sure I'll get yelled at for saying it to you, but you're not helping, and you're being rude to me.

1. Live while you can. Being 15 can stink a lot, but if you spend 15/16/17 on being 18, you're going to wake up one morning and wonder how you spent your HS years.
2. There's nothing wrong with planning, but things can change.
3. You might want to start (even ehanging out) with people closer to your own age, be it on myspace or facebook, or the teen forum here.

I'll ask people on the teen forum :) Myspace is not my kinda thing. I do have myspace and everything, but don't really wanna go that route. Facebook I don't know how to use, so I'll stick with the teen forum here.

Being 15 does stink. It's very in-between. I'm not old enough to be worth much as far as getting a part time job - all I can do is bus tables or work at McDonalds (which I do). When I'm 16, things will improve a little.

If you want to be a Real Estate Agent, be prepared to make nothing for at least 6 months. You have to 1) get your license 2) Pay (out the ying yang) for board and association dues, marketing material, a decent car, have a lot gas money, etc...

And then, you have to find those pesky people who are willing to put their trust in you as they make the largest most important purchase of their life. ;)

Good luck.

I do have a job...mentioned in my last Orlando thread. I work at McDonald's on weekends.

Who said anything about not going to college? Where did you get that from anyway? I mentioned college in this thread. Believe me, I briefly considered not going, but I think it was pretty clear I did decide I am going. So take that "no higher education" and forget about it - I'm going.

I know I've decided. That was the point of the thread? I never said "Tell me if I should go". I said give me some advice and things I need to figure out before I do go.

Nobody told me. The statistics told me. Florida is NOT one of the most expensive states to live in. Period. Look at the stats. I realize it's getting more so, but I will stand by the fact that even if I chose Alaska, it's gonna be hard either way! I know the wages are low - I fricking know that. I'm not stupid. Not nearly as much as you think. I ask people honest questions, and they flip out.

When did I say anyone was wrong? All I did was ask more questions (more specific ones) or provide an argument to their statements.

Could you guys do me a favor? Treat me like you treat most people on here. Be nicer. I'm not having a cavalier attitude. I wanted to spread my happiness about moving to Florida and get some advice.

BTW, don't think of my family as cushy or luxurious. We're not rich or anything near it. My mom makes $39k. My dad lives in a 1 bedroom apartment up the road. Nobody said I'm rich. i just said I'm allowed to come home. It's not cushy or luxurious, it's just them being nice.

So please guys, cut me some slack. I wanted advice, not being called cavalier and stuff. I'm a sensitive person, please chill. :(

And lastly - It's the same difference no matter what state I pick. So don't harp on me about florida being expensive. Most of the other states I'd choose are MORE expensive.

But Tracy, WHEN DID I SAY "I expect a high paying job! I expect a sweet apartment with no college!?" You're putting words in my mouth. I didn't say that. Or anything close to it! And also, yeah, my "mommy and daddy" aren't even TOGETHER. So that was really insulting. I know you don't know they aren't, but it really made me feel disgusting. I'm not a snot. I was just saying my mom would let me come home. God.

Not to put on a sob story, but you guys are mostly hurting my feelings and not helping me, which is making me not listen to your advice. It's good advice. Just don't be so harsh!
Put your hands together, and let's all give Napoleon Dynamite a round of applause for this brilliant (and mature ;) ) monologue! Give it up, Everybody! :::::clapping:::::

If barber is your #1 choice, you can take classes for that in high school, can't you?

Have you ever considered getting a blog? I used Opendiary in my teens and Livejournal in college. LJ might be good for you because you could join communities, say, for gay teens, or the WDW college program. Also, you can set privacy settings if you need to keep things private.

Thanks Iloveboardwalk. I have read about real estate agent careers. If they made a steady salary I almost would INSTANTLY decide to be one. But what worries me is that it's not a steady salary, and the market pretty much dictates your living. I'd probably need a side-job in addition to being a real estate agent.

What's the best postsecondary way to become a real estate agent anyway? Specialized real state school, general college, or what?

Please stop making fun of me. I didn't do anything to you.

This is a very good idea, Hedy! :thumbsup2

Psssttt.....you're doing it again. I know we all sound rude to you, but no one is here to stroke you delicate sensibilities or be your emotional support group. You got what you asked for....the good, the bad and the ugly. This can be one of the nicest and yet one of the most brutal places around here. If you're going to get your feelings hurt every time someone says something you don't like, you wont last a minute. Toughen up and move on.

If you know that you all sound rude, then maybe I'm justified in being a little upset. Sure I'm sensitive and I overreact. I'll try to stop. You're right, I can take the good bad and ugly. :)

I realize you guys are just trying to help. I'll stop the whining. I just want the advice now. Maybe a LITTLE less brutal?

Well, I DO make a steady income. I don't know of any Real Estate agents who make a "salary." ;) When the market dips, you have to work harder and smarter. People are always buying and selling Real Estate, there is always business in the business. During a boom market, a lot of people get into it, because it's easy when everything is selling. But here in AZ, something like 45% of licensees moved on to other careers in 2006. Their business plan was to "go with the market" which doesn't cut it. You must have an actual written out business plan.

Every state has their own licensing procedures. I don't know what it is in Florida as I've only been licensed in AZ and CA. In some states, you can do your course work online. In some states, they require physical classroom hours. You then have to take (and pass!) the test which also costs money, every time, even if you fail. In order to have access to the MLS, you must join the national, state and local association of Realtors, and pay all the dues associated with each of those, pay your MLS dues and be prepared to market yourself.

Many, many agents have other jobs on the side. I have to say, I don't know too many successful agents who have a side job. Real Estate is a full time job. One in which you are accountable only to yourself so you MUST be motivated and disciplined enough to follow through.

OK, first of all.....you're a guy????? I don't know why but I thought you were a girl. Sorry, now it makes sense why you want to be a barber. :rotfl:

Anyhow, I'm confused about you college/work plans. From what it sounds like, you plan on moving to Orlando and working right away. When everyone says "good luck" then you say "oh wait, I might go to college". You need to decide what you're doing first--going to college or joining the workforce. Those are two completely different life choices to plan for.

You also said your college will be covered in full. If that's true GO TO COLLEGE!!!!!!!! You can even go to college in Florida. Focus on looking at colleges in the area. Look at student housing--maybe it's cheaper than getting an apartment. Look at entry requirements. Figure out what you need to be successful at a school in Florida and work towards that goal. If you go to college in Florida, you'll be a lot better prepared to join the work force in Florida after you graduate.

Thanks Beth :) Yeah, I'm looking at colleges in Florida, and specialized schools for barbers or real estate agents since I could become one of those.

I'm definetly doing some sort of postsecondary schooling, whether it be specialized school or normal college. I'm not going straight to the workforce outta high school and making a max of $10 an hour after 30 years of doing something.

As I mentioned, Real Estate is a full time career. If you plan to go to college (and you should!!) then you should wait on becomeng a Real Estate agent.
