So I have this horribly irrational eye phobia and it's time to get new glasses and have an eye exam. My mom is the same way (must have gotten it from her) and also needs new glasses. We are going to try and get this accomplished this weekend. The last time we got glasses we were in California and they had no problem with forgoing the air test and eye drops. Now we live in Florida and I'm hoping that we can do the same thing here. We are planning on trying Lens Crafters or JC Penney. Does anyone know if they have a problem with you picking and choosing what they do to you? Does anyone else have an eye phobia? Were you able to overcome it? I am sitting here getting light-headed and sick to my stomach just thinking about eye drops. Crazy, I know!:rotfl::confused3

I would rather go to the dentist than have that poof of air blown into my eyeball:lmao: I hate it! My eyelids and face start twitching as soon as they tell me to put my chin in the stirup:rotfl:

you are definitely not alone - I hate anything to do with the eye and the thought of someone putting contacts in (or actually stumbling across Lasik surgery on TV) are enough to :scared1:

Anyway, i've not been to the eye doctor in about 4 years myself and I went to a small practice where they understood my phobia. They did make me sit through the eye poof (she did it on the count of 2 instead of 3, LOL) but I got to put in my own dialation eye drops.

My sister is the same way. However she went to my eye doctor and loves them. Find someone that is gentle and has patience.

My own dd almost passed out at her last visit from the drops. But they are a good group and know how to handle with care.:goodvibes

I really do not recommend you guys forgo any tests. She found out she has the retinal problem and a pressure issue. She has to see the eye doctor every yr. without fail to keep tabs on it.

Your sister sounds exactly like me. I remember one time I was like 9 or 10 and we were at Disneyland and I got some sort of eye infection. My parents had to take me to the eye doctor and they gave me eye drops. I remember my parents having to hold me down to put them in. I was crying hysterically. :sad2:

As far as forgoing tests...do people that don't need glasses or contacts even go to the eye doctor on a regular basis? I don't remember going until I needed glasses. I guess my point is that I probably wouldn't even go if my vision was perfect, so therefore I would have no idea if some kind of problem was lurking...

LOL I am just trying to come up with excuses to not take those tests, so you can let me know if I'm being ignorant.;)

please please, don't neglect your eyes for some phobia.the problems i have had make a small puff of air insignificant.A form of glaucoma, graves disease (due to over active thyroid) Cataract in both eyes, secondary cataract in both eyes, return of the secondary cataract(might have to remove the lenses as its now in front of lens)
I still have great vision but if i don't go for the tests(mine are far worse than the puff of air) i would end up not being able to see much.not old as only 46 this all started 10 years ago
