We met our sons kindergarten teacher (well my dh just met him- I met him weeks ago) and the first thing he said to us is- "You guys are going to leave here with swollen heads." He had the NICEST things to say about our son!! He said Jack is very thoughtful (towards the other children and the staff), that he is well liked by all the other kids, that he has the ability to help other kids find the right words to resolve their conflicts, he said he has taken a special needs child under his wing and the difference in that child's behavior is incredible since they became buddies,he said that Jack is a gracious loser when they play games, he said he asks wonderful thought provoking questions and always raises his hand quietly when he wants to speak. He also said he has never seen a kindergarten student with a vocabulary like my son's.... he said he uses the words appropriately and if you ask him what a word means he can define it for you. The only "negative" things he had to say were that Jack's fine motor skills weren't quite up to snuff but he said he has a basket of scrap paper that is blank on one side and writing lessons they have already done on the other and that Jack will do the lesson on his own during his free time instead of just coloring on the blank side..... and he said that sometimes Jack is so social that he doesn't get his work done and then he will rush through it. They are working on that he said.

My son has been such a handful at home that hearing these things practically made me cry (especially hearing about how kind he is to others..... ) I was afraid when he started school he would act out like he does at home (here he will still throw himself on the floor and have a tantrum.)

I know this was long but I had to share.... I post so much when I am at my wits end with kids, husband etc. Some good news for a change!!

Congratulations!!! It's obvious that no matter how he decides to act at home, he knows how he's supposed to act in public. You've taught him well. He sounds like a great kid. :D

:D :D That sounds like a terrific conference!!:D :D
Jack sounds like a wonderful little boy.....when a child is kind and loving to others is says a lot about his parents ans his family:)
You should be very proud of him!!:)

I know the feeling Mermaid....doesn't it feel great?? This has been happening to me since kindergarten with DD1 and she's now in 4th grade....then I ask the teachers...are you sure we are talking about the same child that lives in my house?? ;) Then they say that what I'm doing at home is working in school. YAY!! only....can we show some of that cooperation at home too???
I am going to their P/ T conference next month but at the open house last week I was already given a mini conference and all the teachers told me the same thing, even the little one in kindergarten is doing great....so let's keep up the good work! Congrats to your DS on a great job!!

That is awesome! Good for you! You must have felt great after that meeting!

Thats so awesome! Its great to hear something nice about your kid, but to hear all that must be overwhelming! You have every right to brag. ;)
Congrats to you and Jack & can you send him over here to hang out with Cam for a while? :teeth:

Jack sounds like one special, little boy!!:D
You've obviously done a great job raising him. I hope he always stays that way.:D

Please tell Jack that He Is the Man!!!So glad to hear it went well, We had our conference with dd's teacher in the Hospital last night, ugh..dd broke her arm yesterday and her teacher did not leave her side so I got to spent hours with Ms. Decico last night, glad yours was in the school and congrats to you and Jack!!!

Awesome!! How proud you must be. You are raising a fine son.

We have DD, Jill, teacher conference in about 2 weeks. I am so nervous.

:)

What great news to hear! Congratulations, mommy! Every time you post about Jack, I think he sounds mighty special.

Now a tip for helping those fine motor skills—take away all his crayons and markers, and give him pencils instead. This means colored pencils to color with from now on.

This is something Louis’s kindergarten teacher did with all the kids in her class last year, and it really seemed to work. She said it was her experience (35+ years of teaching) that using the pencils (because they are thinner and harder than crayons) taught the kids’ hands better control.

I think it worked. My DS couldn’t write more than his name when he started with her last year. By Christmas time, his handwriting was looking as good as typing.

Awww! Way to go Jack!!!! What wonderful things to say!! You know you two must be pretty awesome parents too...because a child learns from example!

John-Cole's largest problem at that age, and this age too (11) was loosing gracefully. He hates loosing but thankfully he is getting better.

Thanks you guys- I don't really feel like a particularly good parent. I do my best (as does my dh) but I don't have much patience and I tend to yell too much (I think) but I sure do love my little guy! He's a sick little man tonight... sinus infection and bronchitis:( And my daughter (who is pretty great too!) has a bad cold..... Can anyone spare a can of Lysol?? LOL

Thanks for the advice Janice- I think I'll try that. He already has some colored pencils too.

That's wonderful!! :) You and DH are definitely doing something right to have a son like that :)

P.S. Hope they both feel better soon!
