It's seems like we've gone 0 to 60 with this, but WDWMAGIC is reporting that Disney will be announcing the major DTD overhaul tomorrow at DTD, according to WDWMAGIC. Rumors indicate that Tom Staggs is in Orlando and will be present at tomorrow's event.

For those who aren't aware of the rumored plans, THIS article (by wdwsource.com) does an excellent job at summarizing it.

Buckle up and brace yourselves, everyone. It's going to be a wild ride....

Please don't start destroying stuff before I get there one last time.....

Not to challenge any Mods (they definitley know what they're doing) but I just want to clarify that this event has been officially announced by Disney and it seems members of the press have been invited. I would not consider this a rumor at this point. Just for further clarification, as I didn't state that in my OP.

Strange the article you link says rumor all over it yet you say it's officially announced. I'm confused.

From what I understand, a PR event has been organized. While Disney Springs is technically still a rumor, they are announcing it tomorrow. The fact that there will be an announcement seems to official.

Oh, and the article that I linked was written about a month ago when the plans were first leaked.

The name of this forum is Disney Rumors and News though, so it is a good fit. ;)

That linked story was posted back on Feb 16. It was a rumor and we don't know if this will be the final details. This is just what had been circulating in last few weeks. The announcement for the Downtown Disney expansion is happening tomorrow and then we will get the final details... Hopefully lol

Agreed. Plus it's so close to Saratoga Springs. Just doesn't seem like the right name

That actually MAKES more sense...the name.

Saratoga is the most undesirable location for DVC...it was slapped together, overbuilt, and the point structure is out of whack...

While it may be a "better" location on some levels...nobody can make a valid case that overall it is the one DVC that is always available...which means it IS a problem because DVC is designed for "full occupancy" - not "mostly full except for some"

And since I'll probably get jumped on (have in the past but still not counterargument)...Disney has admitted this but not with words.

A second theme pool 3 years after construction? A third 3 years later? New quickserve?

Seems normal right? Wrong...it usually takes them 20 or more years before they get around to capital construction of new hotel facilities...it usually is at least a 10 year interval before repurposing of existing facilities...even in $400 a night digs. The extra construction was an admission of failure...if the place was booked...wouldn't have happened.

So yeah...back to downtown and "springs"...
I think it makes more sense..."attach" the name to both...add more offerings to make Saratoga
More desirable...maybe eventually even semi-integrate.

Makes sense...give it enough appeal to make it a "convenient, hidden gem"...as opposed to "overpriced old key west that shouldn't cost as much as wilderness, beach, boardwalk"

Which it is

I agree that Saratoga Springs really needs help and something to identify it with to make it a desirable DVC over the others. This could potentially give it a "shot in the arm" and help it out. Depends on what they decide to add to the area.

~Thanks for the update! I like the idea but loathe the name. I think the overhead train is pretty neat, too! We'll see. :goodvibes

Who wants to enjoy a night out at a place that sounds like a nursing home?

Anyone know what time the announcement is?

it's supposed to come in the morning, and be basically a press release with some news spots throughout the day.

In typical Disney fashion, they make a big event to tell us about things they have already announced, but something that's actually new, they do a little press release. Makes perfect sense /rolls eyes

Not to beat a hopefully not quite - but probably dead horse, if they want me to give up park time to visit DTD, I need to hear two words - Adventurers Club.

trader sam's is rumored to be coming, but I realize that is no replacement.

at this point I just want them to do SOMETHING with the area. In the meantime, they have missed out on nearly 5 years of revenue from PI. But of course, that's because it was the right storm of bad management coming together to make a short sighted decision to take the cheap way out.

The plans that have been leaked are reportedly the same plans in the "keep PI" bucket, but instead they went the cheap route and look where that got them...

Anyway, I would be happy if they have restaurants which turn to clubs at night, or at least an "ultra lounge" MDP and 8-trax can still be utilized as clubs. But perhaps that's wishful thinking. The PI area is expected to be more geared towards adults though. The question is how much.
