With the summer here Im feeling more of a need to keep an eye on the scale. Im afraid that if I dont I wont eat enough and loose more than the doc wanted me to loose. Doc told me not to go below 120 - when I notice the scale start going down I eat a bit more. (I know the #s could always go up if I dont keep an eye on it too).
I also use fitday to monitor my food in/calories burned. I wont have this available to me intermittently over the summer - not that Im taking a scale on vaca!
With 3 summer vacas coming up I feel its even more important to check those scale #s when I leave and return.

Does this make any sense to anyone else? Seems it was a motivator when I was loosing to see those scale #s go down but now its more important to make sure I dont loose too much.

I scale it every day, just to make sure I don't gain any more than my self-imposed 2 pounds from my goal weight. It really does help motivate me when I see that scale hit the limit.

Count me in for a daily or everyother day weigh in! Don't want to let them "creep" up on me like they did last time!

Hi everyone!

After spending the last 16 years yo-yoing, I've found that one of the things I have to do to successfully maintain is to weigh myself everyday. I need to see when that weight is creeping up, because if I don't, I won't get a handle on any weight increase, and we all know the statistics of how many people actually maintain their weight loss! I, too, lost "too much" weight at first. I was at 116 lbs. and looked skeletal (I'm 5'5 with broad shoulders, wide hips and an all-around larger frame). I was afraid to gain weight like my Dr. wanted, but with his encouragement, I gained 10 pounds.

I've lost 110 lbs. and have kept it off for six months so far--a short time, but honestly longer than I ever maintained before without even a small gain. My goal weight is 125-127, as my Dr. told me to always allow myself a 2-3 pound leeway. But once I hit 127, I know I have to start watching my food intake and adjust as necessary. This is something I never did in my previous weight maintenance attempts, and it's making all the difference. That and consistent cardio and weight-bearing exercise. I never want to yo-yo again--physically and emotionally, I just couldn't handle it.

Congratulations on all your successes!:)

I'm another daily weigh in person. Every time I've gained in the past it was always when I stopped the daily weigh in. I can't always tell from my clothes - especially now that so many of them are too big for me! I also find that daily weigh ins keep me focused on what I'm supposed to be doing, & motivated to stick with my plan. I know I will see daily fluctuations, but daily check ins help me to monitor for a trend that either needs to be stopped, or maybe enjoyed if it's a loss! I know it's not for everyone, but it works for me!

Research from the National Weight Control Registry shows that weighing yourself periodically aids in maintaing weight-loss.

Unfortunately knowing the research doesn't mean I do what I should!

During my weight loss, I only weighed in once a week, but now that I'm maintaining, I have started weighing in daily. Mostly, it's because I've fallen into the habit of counting points (Weight Watchers) during the week, but not doing so on the weekends. I weigh in on the weekends to make sure that I'm not going over my ideal weight range while not counting points. Then during the week, I'm weighing in to make sure that I get back down to under my ideal weight range. So, really, I'm yo-yo dieting over about a 4 pound range. I would like to go back to only weighing in once a week, but I'm afraid that I'll gain too much weight back before I realize it. Maybe I'll just establish a rule that I only weigh in on days where I didn't count points the day before :p

My problem isn't losing too much, but count me in as another daily weigher. When I've gained in the past it is due to not paying attention and letting it creep up too far. So far this time I have maintained since about the beginning of the year. When I'm up a couple, I become more strict to get myself down, and then I can relax again. It isn't an obsession, but a daily reaffirming thing. Part of my morning routine.

I've lost 65 lbs. and have kept it off for over one year. While I was losing weight, I weighed myself once a week, on Monday AM, as soon as I got up. I've continued with this "somewhat rigid" pattern, now that I'm maintaining.
I set my goal weight at the upper-most weight for a large frame (which I have) at my height. I think some would say that I should lose a few more lbs., but this weight works for me, especially since I exercise 6 days per week. During maintenance, I've only fluctuated 2 lbs. either up or down.
I have always had a love-hate relationship w/ scales. Even though I've stayed at goal for a while, I still climb onto the scale filled w/ trepidation.

I never step on the scale, the only time is at the doctor's office during my yearly physical.
I know if I'm gaining weight by how my pants fit. If I'm going up to the next size, it's time to start doing something more carefully.
It works for me!
