Hi Dis-ers!

Just decided this week to squeeze in a very tightly budgeted trip over Christmas this year. (I know, we're nuts to go at this time of year.):santa:

Value Resorts are sold out, so we're looking at low-cost properties off site. (Low-cost in this case means sub-$100 per night for 5 people).

I've been looking at several places along Maingate East and Maingate West. Can anyone tell me what access to MK is like from those areas? On the map everything looks close to MK, but how about traffic? Any estimates of travel time? Is one side "better" than the other?

Right now I'm leaning toward Ramada Maingate West (kid suites for $80 and indoor pool which could be a good thing in late December), but if its going to be a hassle to get into the parks I want to re-think it.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!!!
:santa:

We like the Maingate west area better, less congestion of traffic. You're only 5 - 10 min from Disney either side. If the Ramada is where I think it is you're only 1-2 miles from the World Dr entrance on 192. You can also used Sherberth Rd and be at AK in 5 min. :)

I stay off-site pretty often and I really prefer to look at other areas such as Lake Buena Vista and even International Drive before staying on 192 either west or east of Disney. There are still some very nice places such as the Comfort Suites by Old Town but it just seems the nicer areas on 192 are becoming rare.Any area in the tourist areas of Orlando in my opinion aren't that far to get to Disney.Even on International Drive you get on I-4 and you're in Disney property in about 10 minutes. So look around but if you're going to stay on 192 I suggest the Comfort Suites Maingate east by Old Town,I've booked it for like $60 before but even if it's at $80 it's a good deal!!I was just looking at the website of the Ramada you're looking at and I like the indoor pool area and overall it looks pretty good and probably worth a shot especially since it's pretty close to Disney!!

I think you're both right, there aren't a lot of "bad" places. Thanks for the Comfort Inn tip....I'll check it out!

We have stayed at the Comfort Suites Maingate East in the past and have it booked for next month. I love this hotel. Here is their website:

Do not book it from their website though, you can find other deals. We booked at choicehotels.com/florida. Under the rate selection area use the "travel florida rate". We got the room for $72/night.
