I'm sure someone on these boards has had their haircut in the park. How was it?

I'm thinking about getting my son's hair cut for the first time when we're there in Oct. Do you think it will overwhelm him? Is it even worth doing?

My DH got his haircut the last time we were there and it was a wonderful experience. There was a little girl ahead of us there for her first haircut and the barber (I think his name was Michael) was so sweet and patient with her.

He also gave my husband, even though he is 32, extra special treatment...red hair gel and pixie dust. I got some great pictures.

My advice is go early...you can't make appointments and even though we got there at opening, the little girl was ahead of us and there were 3-4 people waiting by the time we left.

Have fun! :D

Totally agree with KMH1!!! We had a wonderful experience at the barbershop! Definitely do it. We had our DH get his first haircut there and it was great!!! Maura was wonderful and Michael was great too!! My DH 36 got the special treatment too!!!
Your son will also get a certificate, free Mickey Ears that say first haircut on the back, your son's hair wrapped up, stickers, and such special treatment!! DO IT!!! The photo ops are great!!!

My husband and son never miss getting a haircut in the MK. I think it is totally the best haircuts they have ever had. We took our son when he was 13 months old for his first haircut, it really is something special.

Definatley give it a try:D

Michael at the Main Street Barbershop gave my Son his First hair cut, and it was wonderful!! Not only do they pose for lots of picture Ops., but they had bubbles and light-up twirly toys (Buzz Lightyear, etc.) to entertain him. They gave him Mickey Ears that ay "First Haircut", plus sent some of his hair home with a certificate. Definitely worth it! I second going early- like when they open (9:00am?) because the line gets long, and I know my toddler doesn't have alot of patience!

I am so excited!!!

Thanks for your posts - I'm definetly going to do the 1st haircut there - what a great memory it's going to be - the certificate and ears sound great. I think DH and my other son will get theirs done too.

I was planning on having DD's haircut. Can you tell me how much to budget for?

My 20 year old DS was just getting over his hippie phase and got his shoulder length hair cut (you could call it his first haircut.....in several years) at the Main Street shop in June. It was a gas! The barbershop quartet was singing. The barber put a Mickey apron on my son and pretended to cut his hair with huge red Mickey scissors. He put pixie dust in my DS's hair when it was through! It was an experience to remember and I took lots of pictures. The cost was only $15, but we gave him a huge tip for all the fanfare and the terrific cut. Do go and have fun, but get there early. We had to wait, but it was worth it.

I got my 10 year old son's hair cut there in February. It was a blast.

The barber is wonderful and he put some cool glow in blacklight gel on my son's hair... and his eyebrows, nose, chin, upper lip, and ears.

Well here's a picture from Buzz Lightyear:

The gel was invisible in regular light so it was a real treat on rides.

Have Fun!

Have any of your dd's had their hair trimmed there?? My 9 y/o dd is begging me to have her longish hair trimmed in MK just before school starts for her. I guess it would save making an appt at home!! So, do they do girls trims??? Thanks.

Yes they do girl trims. They will even put it up for her-pony or pig-tails-they just dont do blow drys and all that.

I was just going to post something about this and then I see it has already been posted! :)

I was hoping to get DS's first haircut here during our trip in December. His hair may be a bit longer than I would normally wait but I love those baby curls and I am hoping that a WDW first haircut will help lessen the trauma for me! :teeth:

I've been planning my son's first haircut for a whole year! He will be turning one on 8/8 and we're heading to WDW on 8/10. He will be getting his very first haircut while there! I am hoping to make this a family tradition with any other children I may have. I don't think there is any other way for my son to have his first haircut except for Disney style!!!!!!!! :earsboy:

After getting info about it from this board, I had my Daughter's haircut for the first time when we were in WDW in April. They were super nice and she got a certificate and little Mickey Ears that had "First Hair Cut" on the back. The guy was wonderful and very friendly. My Daughter was 10 months old and she was pretty cooperative. He kept her entertained while he did it.

As far as budget, I THINK we paid $15 for it, and a tip in addition, of course.

Here are a picture from our experience as well as a copy of her little certificate:

I am even more excited. We had planned to take my Grandson to get his hair cut in Aug. Then my DD got a new job and can't go. She called and still wants us to take the baby (19 months)! I didn't know about the mouse ears or the certificate. She will be really surprised when we come home.

DS 6 had his hair cut last year . It was GREAT!!!!! They spiked his hair green, it looked like our front lawn. All the CM commented on his hair, looked great. When we went back the hotel, OKW we gave him a bath and the tub had this funky looking ring around it from the hair gel. He is already for his next haircut this December.
