A few questions for anyone who has done this :)

-Can you get stamps close to port?
-How much do they (stamps) cost?
-How long does it take to get to the states?

Thanks :)

If I remember correctly, we walked to the post office from the port. It is a United States Post Office and so uses US stamps. Don't remember how long it took to get to the states.

If you live in the United States, it would seem easiest to buy stamps before you leave home, if you plan to send mail from St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The same would be true for Key West, Florida.

On the other hand, you'll need to buy local postage stamps for postcards from St. Maarten and Castaway Cay (Bahamas) on the Eastern and from Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Castaway Cay on the Western.

Regarding mail from St, Thomas, here's information from http://www.frommers.com/destinations/stthomasusvi/0097020016.html

Mail-- Postage rates are the same as on the U.S. mainland: 23¢ for a postcard and 37¢ for a letter to U.S. addresses. For international mail, a first-class letter of up to 1/2 ounce costs 80¢ (60¢ to Canada or Mexico); a first-class postcard costs 70¢ (50¢ to Canada or Mexico); and a preprinted postal aerogramme costs 70¢.

Post Office-- The main post office is at 9846 Estate Thomas (tel. 340/774-1950) in Charlotte Amalie, open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm and Saturday from 7:30am to 2:30pm.

Here's the easiest way - I went to Guest Services, purchased stamps from them, and gave them the postcards to mail. They took care of mailing them from St. Thomas. The postcards took 8 days to reach my friends. Much faster than mail from the Bahamas!

That's easy!

Does Guest Services sell any stamps other than U.S. stamps?

You know, I didn't think to ask if they sold stamps other than U.S. Probably not, because I went to Guest Services the night before we were going to be in St. Maarten and inquired about mailing my postcards. The only option she gave me was to have them mailed from St. Thomas.
